📋 Description

• Review and provide clear, actionable feedback on community pull requests (PRs) to maintain a two-week review SLA for external contributions to n8n’s codebase.
• Guide external contributors through the PR process, helping them understand requirements, resolve feedback, and successfully merge their changes into the main codebase.
• Debug and fix bugs across the n8n codebase that impact contributors, nodes, or workflow behavior, particularly those involving external APIs, SDKs, and authentication flows.
• Vet community-developed nodes to ensure they meet n8n’s standards for quality, security, usability, and reliability before integration into the platform.
• Improve documentation by making targeted updates that help users and contributors understand how to build, test, and enhance workflows and nodes.
• Contribute to node enhancements and adjacent engineering tasks that improve the extensibility and maintainability of n8n’s platform.
• Automate and streamline processes for managing community contributions as the builder community scales beyond 650,000 active developers.
• Collaborate closely with core team members including Jon and Garrit to ensure smooth, consistent, and transparent handling of community-driven development.
• Follow up on open PRs, bugs, and contributor discussions until resolution, maintaining high attention to edge cases and unresolved threads.
• Communicate clearly and constructively in async environments such as GitHub PR comments, issue threads, and community forums.
• Support the broader community by contributing to open-source improvements, responding to technical questions, and fostering an inclusive contributor culture.
• Participate in hackathons and internal innovation events to explore new features, tools, and automation possibilities within n8n’s ecosystem.
• Utilize the company’s unlimited AI budget to enhance productivity, automate review tasks, and improve contribution workflows.
• Allocate $100 monthly toward open-source projects you care about, reinforcing n8n’s commitment to supporting the broader developer community.
• Work within a remote-first, globally distributed team across Europe and the US, with a center of gravity in Berlin.
• Maintain alignment with n8n’s core value of empowering others by enabling contributors to succeed without ego or barriers.

🎯 Requirements

• JavaScript and TypeScript proficiency: Strong hands-on experience building, debugging, and maintaining production-quality JavaScript or TypeScript code.
• Debugging ability: Proven capacity to investigate bugs in codebases with external dependencies such as APIs, SDKs, and third-party services.
• API and authentication knowledge: Understanding of REST APIs and common authentication methods including OAuth and API keys.
• n8n or workflow automation familiarity: Experience building and testing workflows, with basic node development as a strong plus.
• CLI and package manager comfort: Proficiency using CLI tools and package managers such as npm or pnpm.
• Clear written communication: Ability to communicate clearly and constructively in async, community-facing technical environments like PR reviews and issue threads.
• Detail orientation: Consistent follow-through on open threads, bugs, reviews, and edge cases until fully resolved.
• Collaborative mindset: Low-ego, open to feedback, and motivated by helping others contribute successfully.
