Compliance Lead

📋 Description

• • As the Compliance Lead at Sphere Labs, you will own the end-to-end indirect tax filing and compliance process across multiple jurisdictions, serving as the operational backbone of the tax function to ensure timely, accurate, and scalable return preparation while reducing risk and increasing efficiency.
• • Day to day, you will work directly with the head of tax to own the monthly/periodic tax filing cycle across thousands of returns, manage timelines and deliverables, coordinate across teams, and ensure filings are completed accurately and on time.
• • Sphere Labs is a fast-growing, a16z- and YC-backed company solving one of the hardest problems in global trade infrastructure: compliance across 190+ sovereign jurisdictions using AI (TRAM) to interpret and resolve conflicting trade laws with millisecond latency and zero downtime. The company operates with a small team in San Francisco (five days in office), where everyone owns a domain that would be a full team at a larger company, and is expanding into input tax, withholding, e-invoicing, and tariffs.
• • In this role, you will learn to design and implement scalable compliance processes, partner with engineering to improve automation, reduce manual effort, and increase reliability of filings — gaining end-to-end ownership of a complex, high-impact function in a high-growth startup where speed and accuracy are both expected and achievable.
