Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Serve as the primary strategic partner for 20–25 high-achieving high-school students who dream of majoring in Computer Science at top-50 universities, including the UCs, Ivy League, Stanford, MIT, and Carnegie Mellon. You will own every phase of their admissions journey—from 9th-grade course selection to the moment they click “submit” on their final application.
- • Translate complex CS concepts into age-appropriate language so students can articulate why they love building algorithms, hacking hardware, or designing ethical AI. You’ll help them craft personal statements, supplemental essays, activity descriptions, and resumes that showcase genuine passion and measurable impact.
- • Design data-driven extracurricular roadmaps that move far beyond “join the robotics club.” Examples: secure spots in selective summer research programs (e.g., MIT RSI, Simons, Garcia), land competitive internships at start-ups or university labs, win hackathons, publish code on GitHub with meaningful stars, or create an app that solves a real-world problem.
- • Build and continuously refine a balanced college list using Empowerly’s proprietary Empowerly Score, which quantifies academic rigor, essay strength, and extracurricular depth. You’ll categorize schools as reach, target, or safety and adjust early-action vs. early-decision strategies based on real-time admissions data.
- • Provide end-to-end application guidance: brainstorm essay topics, conduct unlimited iterative edits, polish activity descriptions, coach recommenders, and conduct final application audits. You’ll also demystify FAFSA, CSS Profile, merit-scholarship essays, and wait-list letters.
- • Coach students on standardized testing strategy—whether to take SAT, ACT, or go test-optional—and integrate AP Computer Science A/Principles, USACO, or other credentialing exams into their timeline.
- • Act as the bridge between students and parents, sending concise weekly updates, hosting joint check-ins, and translating admissions jargon into plain English. You’ll maintain a warm, professional tone that keeps families confident and calm.
- • Leverage Empowerly’s internal Slack channels, resource libraries, and monthly counselor roundtables to stay ahead of shifting admissions policies, new CS program launches, and emerging scholarship opportunities.
- • Contribute to the broader Empowerly community by sharing successful case studies, beta-testing new tech features, and occasionally hosting webinars on topics like “How to Build a CS Spike” or “Decoding the UC PIQ Prompts.”
- • Work fully remote on a part-time contractor basis, setting your own schedule while committing to consistent afternoon (post-3:00 p.m. PST) or weekend availability to match student needs. Expect 5–15 hours per week per student cohort, with the flexibility to scale up during peak essay season.
- • Measure your impact not just by acceptance letters but by how confidently students can pitch themselves in interviews, network at hackathons, and thrive once they arrive on campus.
