- • The Conservation Coordinator, Kosrae supports conservation and fisheries activities across Kosrae within the Micronesia & Polynesia Chapter of The Nature Conservancy, advancing protection, stewardship, and sustainable fisheries goals through administrative, research, project management, and technical assistance.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting biological sampling of coastal fisheries species, species identification, enumeration, and data entry; leading fisheries stock assessments; supporting anchored Fish Aggregating Device (aFAD) programs; organizing and facilitating community meetings and events; developing outreach and training materials; training and managing interns, volunteers, and contractors; contributing to budget preparation, monitoring, and fundraising; and maintaining project records under variable weather and remote field conditions.
- • The role is based in Kosrae, Federated States of Micronesia, and is a fixed-term 3-year position renewable subject to funding, operating within a mission-driven organization committed to inclusive, science-based conservation solutions that protect lands and waters for people and nature.
- • The person in this role will gain hands-on experience in fisheries management, community engagement, project coordination, and conservation program implementation in a Pacific Island context, while developing leadership, cross-cultural communication, and technical data skills essential for advancing sustainable resource stewardship.
🎯 Requirements
- • BA/BS degree in biology, ecology, fisheries management, natural resources, or related field and 2 years of related work experience (or equivalent combination such as an associate’s degree and 4 years of experience)
- • Experience with fisheries or conservation work
- • Experience coordinating multiple projects and handling business communications
- • Fluency in English and Kosraean language
