Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Operate Monumental’s construction robots on UK building sites using the company’s in-house software system, Atrium, to automate bricklaying and wall construction tasks.
- • Prepare construction sites by placing markers and capturing photos for 3D reconstruction to ensure accurate robot navigation and build alignment.
- • Travel daily from Monumental’s UK hub to active construction sites across the country, often starting early in the morning to meet project timelines.
- • Perform hands-on site tasks including setting wall ties, cutting and loading bricks, and pointing walls during and after robotic operations.
- • Serve as the primary on-site representative of Monumental, communicating with general contractors, subcontractors, and tradespeople who interact with you as the face of the technology.
- • Monitor robot performance during operations, document anomalies, and provide detailed feedback to R&D and operations teams in Amsterdam to improve system reliability and functionality.
- • Troubleshoot hardware and software issues on-site, applying technical intuition to distinguish between mechanical failures and software glitches, and initiate corrective actions.
- • Maintain and service robots at the UK hub between deployments, including cleaning, inspecting components, and preparing equipment for next-day operations.
- • Build and test walls at the hub to validate system performance, refine operational procedures, and support product development through real-world feedback.
- • Ensure every constructed wall meets high-quality standards, paying close attention to detail—imperfections like stained or uneven surfaces are considered failures.
- • Drive company vans to transport robots, tools, and materials between the hub and construction sites, requiring a valid driver’s license and comfort with daily commuting.
- • Work in dynamic, outdoor construction environments, often in variable weather conditions, and adapt quickly to changing site conditions and project demands.
- • Be part of the first team in the UK to deploy robotic automation in construction, helping transform an industry that has remained unchanged for centuries.
- • Collaborate remotely with engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams based in Amsterdam to resolve complex issues and contribute to iterative product improvements.
- • Embrace a hands-on, action-oriented mindset: prioritize practical problem-solving over theoretical knowledge, and take initiative when systems deviate from expected performance.
- • Contribute to building affordable, high-quality housing and infrastructure in the UK, addressing the national shortfall of nearly 100,000 homes per year.
🎯 Requirements
- • Technical and analytical mindset with ability to debug hardware and software issues without formal engineering training
- • Comfort with hands-on, outdoor work and willingness to wake up early for daily site commutes
- • Valid driver’s license and experience driving a van
- • Fluency in English (spoken and written)
- • Preference for practical, physical work over desk-based tasks
- • Previous experience on a construction site is a strong plus
🏖️ Benefits
- • Opportunity to be a founding member of Monumental’s first UK team in a high-growth startup
- • Work at the forefront of construction automation, deploying cutting-edge robotics in a legacy industry
- • Flexible employment structure: available as full-time or part-time contractor/sole trader
- • Direct impact on solving the UK’s housing crisis through tangible, real-world building
