Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • Own the end-to-end lifecycle of revenue-focused data products—from raw data ingestion in Snowflake to polished Looker dashboards that senior leadership uses in weekly board packets.
  • • Translate ambiguous business questions from Sales, Marketing, and Customer Success into crisp SQL queries, statistical models in R, and automated ETL pipelines that refresh nightly and surface anomalies before 7 a.m. ET.
  • • Design and maintain a semantic layer in Looker that empowers non-technical users to self-serve answers on policy counts, premium growth, loss ratios, and agent productivity without ever writing code.
  • • Build parameterized R Markdown reports that auto-email regional directors every Monday with territory-level KPIs, funnel conversion rates, and next-best-action recommendations derived from predictive churn models.
  • • Partner with Data Engineering to extend our dbt project—adding incremental models, enforcing data-quality tests, and documenting every transformation so the next analyst can onboard in minutes, not days.
  • • Create ad-hoc but reproducible analyses that help Sales Ops decide which under-performing agents to coach, which geographies to double-down on, and which marketing channels deliver the lowest CAC.
  • • Instrument funnel tracking across Salesforce, HubSpot, and our proprietary policy-admin system so we can finally answer how many MQLs become bound policies within 90 days.
  • • Champion data governance: write clear field descriptions, set row-level security in Looker, and run quarterly audits to ensure we stay compliant with PII and SOC 2 controls.
  • • Present findings in concise, story-driven slide decks during monthly Revenue Ops stand-ups—translating statistical significance into “what this means for next quarter’s quota.”
  • • Mentor junior analysts on window functions, Git branching strategy, and the art of defensive SQL that never breaks when a new product line appears overnight.
  • • Contribute to our internal R package that standardizes date handling, currency conversion, and uplift calculations so the entire analytics org speaks the same analytical language.
  • • Stay ahead of the curve: pilot new Looker features like aggregate awareness, experiment with dbt’s new Python models, and share quick wins in our #data-show-and-tell Slack channel.
  • • Influence roadmap decisions by quantifying ROI—e.g., prove that reducing quote-to-bind time by one day yields an extra $3.2 M in annual premium.
  • • Maintain a 99.9 % data-uptime SLA for executive dashboards; when PagerDuty fires at 2 a.m., you jump on Zoom, triage, and ship a hotfix before the East Coast wakes up.
  • • Document tribal knowledge in Confluence so that six months from now anyone can reproduce your cohort analysis without pinging you on vacation.
  • • Collaborate cross-functionally with Actuarial to validate loss-ratio assumptions and with Finance to reconcile GAAP revenue against operational metrics.
  • • Drive A/B test design for pricing experiments—calculate required sample sizes, monitor statistical power, and deliver post-mortems that shape next year’s rate filings.
  • • Build lightweight Shiny apps that let Product Managers simulate how a 5 % shift in deductible mix impacts both conversion and expected loss.
  • • Participate in sprint planning, estimate story points, and demo completed work every other Friday to a room full of stakeholders who genuinely cheer when a new dashboard drops.
  • • Uphold Pie’s remote-first culture: turn on your camera, share your screen, and make data feel human—even when the numbers are telling a tough story.

🎯 Requirements

  • • 3+ years of hands-on SQL (Snowflake, Redshift, or BigQuery) with expert-level comfort in complex CTEs, window functions, and performance tuning.
  • • Proven experience building and maintaining Looker environments—LookML, Explores, PDTs, and row-level security.
  • • Strong proficiency in R for data analysis, visualization (ggplot2), and package development; familiarity with R Markdown and Shiny a plus.
  • • Demonstrated ability to automate ETL workflows via Airflow, dbt, or similar orchestration tools.
  • • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, or related quantitative field; advanced degree preferred.

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Fully remote-first culture with quarterly off-sites in fun locations (recent retreats: Austin, Denver, Charleston).
  • • Competitive hourly contract rate with weekly invoicing and 30-day payment terms.
  • • Flexible schedule—work when you’re most productive, as long as East-coast morning stand-ups are covered.
  • • $1,000 annual stipend for home-office gear, co-working memberships, or ergonomic upgrades.
