📋 Description

• Lead all accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls across SafeLease’s Managing General Agent (MGA) operations and surplus lines insurance carrier, ensuring accurate dual-track reporting under U.S. GAAP and Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP).
• Own month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, manage intercompany accounting between entities, and oversee premium and claims accounting cycles, including reinsurance and loss reserve accounting.
• Prepare and file NAIC statutory statements (Schedules F, P, D, T), Risk-Based Capital (RBC) calculations, IRIS ratios, and state insurance regulator filings; serve as primary liaison with external auditors, tax advisors, and state examiners.
• Design and maintain SOX-style internal controls, manage consolidated financial reporting, and partner with the CEO and senior leadership on financial insights, variance analysis, and strategic recommendations.
• Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team; establish best-in-class processes and drive continuous improvement in a high-growth, profitable insurtech environment.
• Oversee treasury functions, investment accounting (NAIC SVO-rated portfolios), cash management, capital allocation, and tax compliance including premium and surplus lines taxes across jurisdictions.
• Support fundraising, investor reporting, and due diligence processes; evaluate and enhance financial systems and technology infrastructure for scalability.
• Operate in a remote-first, high-discretion culture where every person’s work is visible, with direct exposure to CEO and senior leadership in a fast-moving, profitable organization growing over 100% annually.

🎯 Requirements

• Insurance carrier experience required, with responsibility spanning an MGA and a surplus lines (Excess & Surplus / E&S) or admitted carrier.
• Statutory accounting (SAP) and NAIC reporting experience required — including preparation or direct oversight of the NAIC Annual Statement and quarterly statements.
• Big Four background required — audit or assurance experience at Deloitte, PwC, EY, or KPMG.
• CPA designation required; Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
• Deep expertise in both U.S. GAAP and SAP, the differences between the two frameworks, and the bridging entries required to reconcile them.
