📋 Description

• The Controller is the first dedicated, in-house accounting leader at 9amHealth, responsible for owning the accounting function end-to-end and serving as a strategic partner to the business.
• You will design and maintain the chart of accounts, drive a fast and accurate month-end close, ensure GAAP compliance, manage tax and 409A valuations, build internal controls, and partner with external auditors and tax firms while progressively bringing accounting in-house.
• You will join a mission-driven healthcare AI startup founded in 2021, backed by top-tier investors, focused on managing chronic conditions like obesity, diabetes, and hypertension through virtual specialty care.
• You will work closely with the CFO and Director of FP&A, present to the board, and develop into a strategic finance leader who enables business insight through rigorous, decision-grade financial reporting and analytics-enabled accounting practices.

🎯 Requirements

• 8–12 years of progressive accounting experience including 3+ years as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Senior Manager at a high-growth company
• CPA (strongly preferred) or equivalent technical accounting expertise
• Big 4 audit background (Deloitte, EY, KPMG, or PwC) strongly preferred
• Hands-on ERP expertise with Sage Intacct or NetSuite, including chart of accounts design and configuration
• Experience managing 409A valuations and ASC 718 stock compensation accounting end-to-end
• Proven ability to manage federal, state, and local tax compliance, including multi-state nexus, sales/use tax, and R&D credits
• Demonstrated experience with month-end close acceleration and reporting automation tools (e.g., FloQast, BlackLine, Numeric)
• Strong written communication skills and ability to produce audit-ready memos and schedules
• Player-coach mindset: comfortable with hands-on accounting and executive-level presentation
• Genuine AI fluency: regular use of tools like Claude or ChatGPT to accelerate finance workflows while maintaining controls
