- • Own the entire accounting lifecycle for a $150 M Series D AI infrastructure company that serves OpenEvidence, Clay, Gamma, Writer, Abridge, and other frontier-model builders. You will architect the function from the ground up, ensuring every dollar is tracked, every control is bullet-proof, and every insight is delivered in real time to founders, investors, and board members.
- • Design and execute Baseten’s very first annual audit, selecting the firm, scoping the engagement, drafting accounting policies, and serving as the primary liaison with auditors. Your work will set the compliance tone for every future round of financing and potential exit.
- • Build and optimize the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes so that leadership receives GAAP-compliant financial statements within five business days of period-end. You will document every journal entry, own the general ledger, and create a scalable close calendar that flexes with headcount and product complexity.
- • Establish the technical accounting framework for usage-based revenue recognition, multi-element arrangements, stock-based compensation, and complex equity structures. Your memos will become the single source of truth for auditors, tax advisors, and future team members.
- • Select, implement, and administer the core finance tech stack—NetSuite as the GL, plus best-in-class billing, AP, payroll, and equity platforms. You will write the RFPs, negotiate contracts, and lead user-acceptance testing so that systems automate 80 % of routine tasks within your first year.
- • Hire, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team that grows from you as a team-of-one to a lean, world-class organization of senior accountants, analysts, and payroll specialists. You will define career ladders, run weekly 1:1s, and create a culture of continuous learning.
- • Partner cross-functionally with Sales, Engineering, and Customer Success to translate business events—new pricing tiers, enterprise contracts, usage spikes—into accurate financial entries and forward-looking forecasts. Your insights will directly influence pricing strategy and cash planning.
- • Own global treasury and cash management, including daily cash positioning, foreign-exchange exposure, and banking relationships. You will design a cash-forecasting model that projects runway under multiple growth scenarios and surfaces early warnings to the CFO.
- • Ensure full tax compliance across federal, state, and international jurisdictions, managing both income tax provision work and all indirect taxes (sales, VAT, GST). You will quarterback our first ASC 740 analysis and build a roadmap for R&D credits and Section 174 capitalization.
- • Champion a culture of internal controls and operational excellence by drafting the first SOX-light control matrix, running quarterly self-assessments, and preparing documentation packages that satisfy investor due-diligence requests in hours, not weeks.
🎯 Requirements
- • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and active CPA license
- • 10–15 years of progressive accounting experience, including Big 4 audit and controllership roles in high-growth SaaS or usage-based tech companies
- • Deep GAAP expertise, especially in revenue recognition (ASC 606), stock-based compensation (ASC 718), and equity accounting
- • Proven track record implementing NetSuite and integrating billing, AP, and payroll platforms
