  • • Join Mantisinnovation as a Controls Application Engineer and play a crucial role in shaping the future of building automation and control systems. This exciting opportunity is based in Houston, TX, with potential for hybrid work and offers a chance to contribute to diverse projects across multiple locations including Dallas, TX, Chicago, IL, Waco, TX, Boston, MA, Atlanta, GA, Ashburn, VA, and Denver, CO.
  • • In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in developing sophisticated Building Management System (BMS) and SCADA applications, encompassing both high-level supervisory functions and intricate controller-level programming. Your expertise will be vital in refining our engineering standards, ensuring consistency and quality across all projects, and providing essential remote support to our dedicated project and field teams.
  • • You will be a key contributor within the Controls Engineering group, offering support across various engineering functions and collaborating with cross-functional teams to achieve project success. This position reports directly to the Controls Engineering Manager, providing a clear line of communication and mentorship.
  • • A core responsibility will be the development of BMS applications across a diverse range of platforms. This includes, but is not limited to, industry-leading systems such as Niagara (N4), Ignition, Wonderware, Distech, and various Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). Your ability to adapt and excel across these varied environments will be highly valued.
  • • You will actively participate in the development and rigorous enforcement of engineering standards. This encompasses critical areas such as programming best practices, graphical user interface design, effective alarming strategies, precise tagging conventions, robust history management, and efficient database creation. Your input will directly influence the quality and maintainability of our control solutions.
  • • A significant aspect of this role involves providing expert remote technical support to Project Managers and Field Engineers throughout the project lifecycle. This includes troubleshooting complex issues, offering guidance on system integration, and ensuring the smooth and successful commissioning of control systems.
  • • You will leverage your strong knowledge of Direct Digital Control (DDC) theory and HVAC applications, applying these fundamental principles to solve real-world challenges in building environments. This requires a deep understanding of how to optimize building performance through intelligent control strategies.
  • • Proficiency in working with industry-standard protocol integrations is essential. You will be comfortable and adept at implementing and troubleshooting integrations using protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, Ethernet IP, SNMP, and MQTT, ensuring seamless communication between diverse systems.
  • • Basic networking knowledge is a prerequisite. This includes the ability to manipulate PC settings, configure network devices, and set up and commission equipment on various networks, ensuring reliable data flow and system connectivity.
  • • Experience with servers, network equipment, and Internet of Things (IoT) practices, specifically as they apply to BMS applications, will be crucial. You will contribute to the implementation of smart building technologies and data-driven control solutions.
  • • You will be expected to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment, effectively managing multiple tasks and priorities across different projects. Strong organizational and time management skills are key to success in this dynamic role.
  • • Exceptional troubleshooting skills are paramount. You must possess the ability to quickly identify the root cause of complex problems and develop and implement effective, sustainable solutions.
  • • Familiarity with the construction contracting industry, particularly within Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) fields, is highly desirable. Experience in mission-critical environments, such as data centers or healthcare facilities, is a significant advantage, as these environments demand the highest levels of reliability and performance.
  • • A solid understanding of Mechanical and Electrical equipment commonly found in typical Mission Critical environments will enable you to design and implement control strategies that ensure optimal operation and uptime.
  • • This role offers a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. You will gain invaluable experience with cutting-edge technologies in the building automation and controls sector. By taking on challenging projects and contributing to their successful completion, you will significantly advance your career and make a tangible impact on the built environment.
  • • We are committed to fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. As a Controls Application Engineer, you will be at the forefront of implementing smart building solutions that enhance efficiency, sustainability, and occupant comfort.
  • • Your contributions will directly impact the performance and reliability of critical infrastructure, ensuring that buildings operate at peak efficiency and meet the evolving needs of their occupants and operators.
  • • This is more than just a job; it's a chance to be part of a forward-thinking company that values expertise, collaboration, and technological advancement. We are looking for a motivated and skilled individual who is eager to grow with us and contribute to our ongoing success in the controls engineering space.
