Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • Step into the beating heart of global clinical research as a Costing Apprentice at Fortrea’s Mumbai hub. This is not a routine internship—it is a 12-month, full-time, paid apprenticeship designed to turn raw potential into market-ready expertise. You will sit shoulder-to-shoulder with the Enterprise Client Solutions Clinical Costing Team, the strategic engine that prices every late-stage clinical trial we bid on worldwide. From day one you will be entrusted with real deliverables that influence multi-million-dollar budgets and ultimately determine whether life-saving therapies reach patients faster.
  • • Master the end-to-end drug-development lifecycle through a blended curriculum of instructor-led sessions, e-learning, and on-the-job coaching. You will learn how Phase II–IV studies are planned, monitored, and reported, and how each line-item cost (investigator grants, lab kits, travel, data management, regulatory submissions, etc.) is derived, negotiated, and defended. By month three you will independently build costing templates in Excel and proprietary Fortrea tools, ensuring accuracy down to the last cent and hour.
  • • Become the team’s data detective. You will mine historical trial metrics, benchmark regional site costs, and run sensitivity analyses that reveal where efficiencies can be gained without compromising quality or compliance. Your dashboards and slide decks will be presented directly to senior directors and global clients, giving you a front-row seat to high-stakes decision making.
  • • Shadow seasoned costing strategists as they craft win-win budget narratives for RFP responses. You will observe live client calls, contribute talking points, and eventually co-lead sections of the bid defense meetings. These experiences will sharpen your commercial acumen and teach you how to translate scientific complexity into compelling, competitive value propositions.
  • • Drive continuous improvement initiatives. Whether it is automating a manual reconciliation step, piloting a new analytics plug-in, or redesigning a report for clarity, your ideas will be welcomed, tested, and—when they work—rolled out globally. Past apprentices have cut proposal turnaround time by 18 % and uncovered $1.2 M in cost savings within their first year.
  • • Collaborate across borders. You will partner with colleagues in Clinical Operations, Data Management, Regulatory Affairs, and Finance across the US, EU, and APAC regions. Regular virtual stand-ups and quarterly in-person summits will expand your professional network and cultural fluency, preparing you for a borderless career.
  • • Receive structured mentorship. Each apprentice is paired with a Costing Lead mentor and a peer buddy. Together you will craft a Personal Development Plan with quarterly OKRs, technical certifications (ICH-GCP, advanced Excel, Power BI, SQL basics), and soft-skill milestones (storytelling, stakeholder management, presentation prowess).
  • • Graduate with a portfolio that sets you apart: live RFP contributions, published process-improvement case studies, and a letter of recommendation from senior leadership. High-performing apprentices are fast-tracked into permanent Associate Cost Analyst or Junior Project Specialist roles, often with international rotation opportunities.

🎯 Requirements

  • • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in life sciences, biomedical sciences, pharmacy, nursing, medicine, clinical research, or related field completed within the last 24 months
  • • Demonstrated project delivery in an academic or extracurricular setting (capstone, research paper, hackathon, or volunteer initiative)
  • • Strong analytical and computing skills—proficiency in MS Excel (pivot tables, v-lookups, basic macros) and comfort with data visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau
  • • Excellent written and verbal English communication; ability to convey complex data in concise, client-ready narratives
  • • Nice-to-have: Certification in ICH-GCP, prior exposure to clinical research concepts, or informatics/technology background with interest in healthcare applications

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Full-time paid apprenticeship with competitive stipend and annual performance bonus
  • • Comprehensive 12-month learning curriculum including ICH-GCP certification, advanced analytics workshops, and presentation masterclasses
  • • Hybrid work model—flexible hours and two days per week work-from-home to support work-life balance
  • • Global mentorship network and fast-track pathway to permanent roles with international rotation possibilities
  • • Access to Fortrea’s wellness programs, employee assistance plan, and vibrant Mumbai campus amenities including cafeteria, gym, and shuttle service
