Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • As Cryptographer Team Lead at SatoshiLabs s.r.o., you will play a pivotal role in shaping the cryptographic foundation of Trezor’s industry-leading hardware wallet products, directly contributing to the security and trust of millions of users worldwide who rely on Trezor to safeguard their digital assets. Your leadership will ensure that cutting-edge cryptographic research is translated into robust, practical implementations that uphold the highest standards of security in the evolving crypto landscape.
- • You will own and drive cryptography initiatives across the organization, leading a small but highly skilled team of three cryptography engineers. This role blends deep technical expertise with people management, requiring you to mentor junior specialists, foster collaboration, and maintain technical excellence while aligning cryptographic strategy with broader product and security goals.
- • Day to day, you will: provide technical direction on complex cryptographic questions and security-related decisions; design, specify, and implement new cryptographic standards such as BIPs (Bitcoin Improvement Proposals) and SLIPs (SatoshiLabs Improvement Proposals); maintain and enhance the trezor-crypto library, which underpins all cryptographic operations in Trezor firmware; conduct thorough reviews of vulnerability reports related to firmware and cryptographic implementations; collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate cryptographic solutions into hardware and software products; stay current with advances in cryptanalysis, post-quantum cryptography, and secure hardware practices; and advocate for cryptographic best practices both internally and within the wider open-source Bitcoin and cryptocurrency communities.
- • You will join a pioneering, mission-driven company that invented the first hardware wallet and continues to innovate in open-source security. Trezor remains 100% self-owned since its founding in 2013, allowing it to prioritize long-term security and user sovereignty over short-term pressures. The company fosters a culture of transparency, technical rigor, and continuous learning, where engineers are empowered to contribute to globally recognized standards and open-source projects with real-world impact.
- • In this role, you will deepen your expertise in applied cryptography for secure embedded systems, gain leadership experience guiding a team of specialists, and influence the direction of cryptographic standards used across the blockchain ecosystem. You will have the opportunity to publish research, present at conferences, and contribute to high-impact open-source projects — all while working on products that protect the financial sovereignty of individuals around the globe.
🎯 Requirements
- • 5+ years of professional experience in cryptography, with a proven track record of applying cryptographic principles to real-world systems
- • Strong command of the C and Python programming languages, including experience with low-level implementation and cryptographic libraries
- • Solid understanding of elliptic curve cryptography (ECC), modern cryptanalytic methods, and protections against side-channel and fault injection attacks
- • Ability to distill complex cryptographic concepts into practical solutions and clearly communicate them to both technical and non-technical audiences
- • Familiarity with Git for version control and collaborative software development
- • Knowledge of cryptography used in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies is advantageous
- • Familiarity with Rust is a plus, particularly for future-proofing cryptographic implementations
🏖️ Benefits
- • Option to receive part or all of your compensation in Bitcoin, aligning with the company’s mission and the crypto-native ethos
- • Budget for professional development, including funding for training programs, crypto conferences, courses, and workshops of your choice
- • Access to renovated offices featuring amenities such as a gym, foosball table, billiards, PlayStation, and a 3D printer, promoting work-life balance and team cohesion
- • Additional perks including a MultiSport card, company mobile phone tariff, free snacks, yoga and fitness classes, and free on-site parking
- • Flexible working arrangements, including home office flexibility, supporting a healthy and sustainable work environment
- • Opportunity to work with an open-source codebase that has garnered over 1,000 GitHub stars, reflecting strong community recognition and impact
