Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Own the health and performance of Bumble’s global data-center fleet. You will be the go-to expert for every rack, server, switch, and cable that keeps millions of connections alive 24/7. Your daily hands-on work directly translates into faster chats, smoother video calls, and safer experiences for users in 150+ countries.
- • Perform proactive and reactive hardware maintenance. Swap failing CPUs, DIMMs, SSDs, NICs, and PSUs in live environments while following strict change-control and safety protocols. Use vendor diagnostics, AI-assisted predictive analytics, and your own sharp instincts to spot degradation before it becomes downtime.
- • Install, configure, and decommission equipment according to detailed engineering run-books. From unboxing and asset-tagging to BIOS/firmware flashing and burn-in testing, you ensure every new node is production-ready and every retired node is wiped, documented, and responsibly recycled.
- • Master the physical layer. Run, dress, and label thousands of copper and fiber cables—10 GbE, 25 GbE, 40 GbE, 100 GbE—maintaining impeccable bend-radius, color-coding, and documentation standards. Your tidy racks are the envy of auditors and the delight of every engineer who has to trace a link at 3 a.m.
- • Own the spares cupboard. Forecast consumption, negotiate RMAs, track shipments, and keep critical inventory just one arm’s length away. When a RAID controller dies on a Friday night, your forward planning turns a potential three-day outage into a 30-minute swap.
- • Write bullet-proof technical instructions. Whether it’s a one-page quick-fix or a 20-step SOP for a remote site, your documentation is so clear that a field tech you’ve never met can execute flawlessly under pressure. You version-control everything in Git and keep the knowledge base evergreen.
- • Join a light 24×7 on-call rotation (roughly one week in six). When alerts fire, you triage with SRE and Network Engineering, decide if a truck-roll is needed, and drive incidents to resolution while keeping stakeholders informed. Post-incident, you run blameless reviews and push systemic fixes.
- • Champion safety and accessibility. You insist on proper lifting technique, thermal monitoring, and ESD protection. You also partner with HR to ensure our data halls remain welcoming to colleagues with disabilities—because great infrastructure is inclusive infrastructure.
- • Experiment with emerging tech. Pilot AI-driven thermal imaging cameras, robotic cable testers, or open-source BMC firmware. Feed results back to the Infrastructure roadmap and help decide what we adopt at scale.
- • Grow your career. Whether you want to deepen as a hardware guru, pivot into Site Reliability Engineering, or move toward Service Engineering, we fund certifications (e.g., CDCP, Linux+, CCNA), send you to conferences, and give you stretch projects that map to your goals.
- • Collaborate across the globe. You will hop on early calls with colleagues in Austin, late calls with teams in Tokyo, and occasionally travel to our other data centers for major refreshes. Your empathy and clear communication turn time-zones into a feature, not a bug.
- • Live the Bumble values. Respect means you treat every user’s heartbeat of data as sacred. Courage means you raise the alarm when a design is risky. Excellence means you leave every rack better than you found it.
