📋 Description

• Zapier is seeking two passionate Data Engineers to join its Data organization, with one specifically focusing on Product Data Engineering. This role is pivotal in shaping the future of how data drives Zapier’s products and platform. You will leverage a modern technology stack to construct robust APIs, services, and foundational data systems that empower other teams to build upon. The Product Data Engineering team is at the forefront of developing and scaling the data systems that underpin critical aspects of Zapier’s product. This includes enhancing personalization and information retrieval for AI systems, as well as managing usage analytics and billing processes. The team collaborates closely with product and engineering departments to ensure data is reliable, easily discoverable, and actionable, ultimately improving the user experience of Zapier.
• In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and maintaining scalable backend systems and APIs that directly influence and enhance the product experiences for Zapier’s users. You will actively collaborate with engineering and analytics teams to optimize data storage solutions, processing workflows, and database schemas, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness. A key responsibility will be defining clear data models and contracts to guarantee consistency, accessibility, and scalability across various systems. You will also contribute significantly to establishing standards, ensuring quality, and implementing robust data governance practices by building reliable and observable data systems with comprehensive testing and validation. You will champion best practices, define golden paths for data operations, and implement CI/CD workflows that uphold data quality, security, and foster continuous improvement.
• Furthermore, you will be tasked with the continuous monitoring and optimization of data workflow performance, proactively identifying and resolving bottlenecks in data ingestion, transformation, and storage processes. This will involve participating in an on-call rotation to ensure the reliability of data-owned services. A significant aspect of the role involves developing reusable engineering patterns and frameworks designed to enable other engineers to independently access and utilize data capabilities safely and efficiently. This empowers teams to integrate and leverage data within their own systems with minimal reliance on the core data engineering team. You will also provide essential support for cross-functional projects, working closely with Product, Analytics, and Machine Learning teams to address their data requirements and help them achieve their objectives through dependable and insightful data.

🎯 Requirements

• 4+ years of experience building and maintaining scalable, reliable data pipelines and infrastructure in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Strong software engineering foundation, with experience designing APIs and data services, applying engineering rigor to build robust, maintainable systems.
• High proficiency in Databricks, Spark, or similar distributed processing platforms for efficient and cost-effective processing of large datasets.
• Proficiency in Python and/or Typescript, and strong SQL skills, with a commitment to writing clean, efficient, and maintainable code.
• Deep care for data reliability and observability, utilizing testing, monitoring, and alerting to ensure data quality, accuracy, and lineage.
