đź“‹ Description
- • As a Data Engineer at Sweed AB, you will play a critical role in ensuring that cannabis retailers have access to accurate, timely, and reliable data to power their daily operations and strategic decisions. Your work will directly impact the performance of Sweed’s all-in-one platform, which integrates POS, eCommerce, marketing, analytics, and inventory management into a unified system used by retailers worldwide.
- • You will design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines using Apache Airflow and Trino to ingest, transform, and deliver data from diverse sources including internal databases, APIs, event streams, and third-party integrations. This includes implementing robust data quality checks, monitoring, validation, and alerting mechanisms to ensure consistency and trustworthiness of data across analytics and operational platforms.
- • You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams such as Product Analytics, Data Architecture, and Engineering to understand business requirements, define data models, and deliver solutions that support feature development, reporting, and executive decision-making. Your contributions will enable faster iteration and better product outcomes.
- • You will optimize data pipelines and queries for performance and cost efficiency in AWS, fine-tuning storage, compute, and processing logic to reduce latency and operational overhead while maintaining high reliability and scalability.
- • You will document data assets thoroughly, including data sources, pipeline logic, schema definitions, and usage guidelines, to promote transparency, enable self-service analytics, and support knowledge sharing across the organization.
- • You will contribute to a culture of technical excellence by advocating for best practices in data engineering, including modular design, version control, testing, and observability, helping Sweed scale its data infrastructure as the platform grows in complexity and user base.
- • Sweed’s development team is distributed globally and organized into cross-functional product teams of 8–12 members, each led by a Team Lead and Product Owner. You will work within this agile structure, collaborating with engineers, QA specialists, and analysts to deliver value in short cycles while aligning with broader company goals.
- • The company has been operating for over 7 years with a mission to destigmatize cannabis retail by providing compliant, efficient, and innovative tools that empower retailers to serve their communities better. Your work will directly support this mission by ensuring that data-driven insights are accessible and actionable for customers navigating a complex and evolving regulatory landscape.
- • In this role, you will deepen your expertise in modern data engineering stacks, including orchestration (Airflow), OLAP systems (Trino, ClickHouse), cloud infrastructure (AWS), and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Helm, ArgoCD). You will gain hands-on experience building production-grade data systems in a regulated, fast-moving industry where data integrity is paramount.
- • You will develop strong collaboration and communication skills by working across time zones and functional teams, translating technical requirements into business value and influencing product direction through data-driven insights.
- • This role offers the opportunity to own end-to-end data pipelines from ingestion to consumption, giving you visibility into how data impacts real-world retail operations and enabling you to see the tangible outcomes of your work on customer success and platform innovation.
🎯 Requirements

- • Experience working with OLAP databases and distributed query engines such as Trino, ClickHouse, or Spark for analytical workloads
- • Solid understanding of data modeling principles and data engineering best practices
- • Familiarity with event-driven architectures and streaming technologies (e.g., Apache Kafka, Spark Streaming, Flink)
