đź“‹ Description
- • Kraken is at the forefront of the cryptocurrency revolution, dedicated to accelerating global adoption and empowering individuals with financial freedom and inclusion. As a Principal Automation Engineer, you will be instrumental in building and scaling the internal automation engine that forms the operational backbone of our rapidly growing company. This is a unique opportunity to operate at the intersection of systems engineering and business partnership, architecting robust workflows, eradicating operational inefficiencies, and rapidly deploying automations that create significant leverage across all functions.
- • This pivotal role resides within the Business Operations team, working in tandem with and extending our enterprise automation portfolio. Your focus will be on process optimization, system integration, automation development, and workflow orchestration. You will serve as a dedicated automation counterpart, embedding deeply within various teams to meticulously address operational friction points with technical rigor and innovative solutions.
- • You will take full ownership of Kraken's internal n8n implementation, from initial deployment and scaling to comprehensive workflow development and long-term governance. This includes building resilient, scalable automations that span across diverse departments, ensuring seamless operation and maximum efficiency.
- • We are seeking a proactive individual who thrives in ambiguous, "0 to 1" environments. You should be comfortable freelancing across different functions, identifying and solving problems before they escalate into significant challenges. Your ability to anticipate needs and implement solutions proactively will be key to your success.
- • The core of this opportunity lies in architecting and owning Kraken's automation platform. This involves hands-on development using n8n and complementary no-code/low-code tooling. You will be responsible for designing and implementing end-to-end workflow automations that touch upon critical areas such as Finance, Compliance, Product, Operations, Engineering, and Customer Support, among others.
- • A significant part of your role will involve identifying operational inefficiencies across the organization. You will then translate these findings into scalable automation solutions designed to eliminate manual work, reduce the likelihood of human error, and free up valuable resources.
- • You will employ a hybrid approach to automation, building both code-based and no-code automations. The selection of the appropriate method will be driven by the complexity of the task and the requirement for long-term durability and maintainability.
- • You will collaborate closely with the Business Operations team, delivering quick-win automations that provide immediate value, while allowing broader engineering teams to concentrate on larger, more complex enterprise initiatives.
- • A key responsibility will be integrating internal and external systems. This involves skillfully stitching together APIs, diverse data sources, and various tools into unified, automated workflows that streamline operations and enhance data flow.
- • You will be instrumental in establishing crucial workflow standards, best practices, and robust monitoring frameworks. These will ensure the long-term stability, observability, and reliability of our automation infrastructure.
- • This role demands a high degree of autonomy. You will be empowered to move independently from ideation and scoping through design, build, testing, and deployment, with minimal oversight. Your ability to drive projects forward efficiently will be highly valued.
- • You will partner with leaders across the company to identify and execute high-impact automation opportunities that align with strategic business objectives.
- • Furthermore, you will contribute significantly to Kraken's overall enterprise automation roadmap, providing valuable insights that inform future tooling decisions and architectural strategies.
- • This role is ideal for someone who possesses a strong systems engineering background and has demonstrable experience architecting internal tooling or comprehensive automation platforms. You should possess deep fluency with n8n or equivalent workflow orchestration tools such as Zapier, Make.com, Airflow, Prefect, or Temporal.
- • Experience operating within startup or "0 to 1" environments, where building structure from the ground up is essential, is highly desirable. You should have a strong understanding of diverse business processes and a proven ability to translate these into scalable, efficient technical workflows.
- • Your track record should include the ability to own problems end-to-end, encompassing discovery, scoping, technical design, implementation, quality assurance, rollout, and ongoing maintenance.
- • You must be adept at working across both code and no-code ecosystems, judiciously selecting the right tool to balance speed of delivery with long-term maintainability.
- • Experience integrating APIs, internal tools, third-party systems, and databases into automated workflows is a critical requirement.
- • A high ownership mindset and a strong bias toward action are essential. You should proactively identify inefficiencies and possess the drive to solve them.
- • Excellent collaboration skills are necessary to work effectively with cross-functional teams including Product, Engineering, Finance, Compliance, Data, and BizOps.
- • You must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring alignment and understanding across the organization.
🎯 Requirements
- • Strong systems engineering background with experience architecting internal tooling or automation platforms.
- • Deep fluency with n8n (or equivalent workflow orchestration tools like Zapier, Make.com, Airflow, Prefect, Temporal).
- • Proven experience operating in startup or "0 to 1" environments, comfortable building structure where none exists.
- • Ability to own problems end-to-end: discovery, scoping, technical design, implementation, QA, rollout, and maintenance.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Fully remote company with Krakenites in 70+ countries.
- • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology in the rapidly evolving crypto space.
- • High degree of autonomy and ownership in a "0 to 1" environment.
- • Contribute to the company's enterprise automation roadmap and strategic decisions.
