  • • Lead the strategy and day-to-day execution of Cylinder Health’s data engineering organization, owning the Data Warehouse and ensuring alignment with business goals across Product, Clinical, Operations, and Finance teams.
  • • Collaborate with Product, Data Science, and Software Engineering teams to define and prioritize the technical roadmap, translating business needs into actionable data engineering initiatives.
  • • Drive the end-to-end delivery of scalable, reliable data pipelines using GCP, DBT, Airflow, and Python, ensuring efficient ingestion, transformation, and storage of diverse datasets including patient health records, lab results, medical claims, and population health data.
  • • Build and mentor a high-performing team of data engineers, providing clear career growth paths, fostering innovation, and promoting a culture of continuous learning and collaboration.
  • • Establish and enforce data governance best practices, including data quality, privacy, security, compliance (HIPAA), and ethical data usage to maintain a single source of truth for all analytics.
  • • Integrate disparate data systems into a unified, patient-centered dataset that supports analytics, machine learning models, and operational decision-making.
  • • Contribute hands-on to the codebase through regular code reviews and direct development, maintaining alignment with the team’s toolstack and technical standards.
  • • Implement test-based development and automation practices to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual intervention in data workflows.
  • • Work closely with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure data systems meet the needs of Insights, Marketing, and Finance teams while supporting clinical outcomes and member care.
  • • Champion data security and compliance in a HIPAA-regulated environment, ensuring all data handling practices meet regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • • Shape the future of Cylinder’s data ecosystem during an early-stage phase, influencing architectural decisions and setting foundational practices for scalability and reliability.
  • • Address complex problems with creative, data-driven solutions in a fast-paced startup environment where roles evolve quickly and ambiguity is common.
  • • Promote a human-first, mission-driven culture focused on improving digestive healthcare outcomes through technology and data.

🎯 Requirements

  • • 5+ years in Data or Software Engineering with 2+ years in Data Engineering leadership roles
  • • Hands-on expertise in GCP, DBT, Airflow, and Python
  • • Proven experience building and supporting Data Warehouse solutions
  • • Experience working in a HIPAA-regulated environment with strong data privacy and security controls
  • • Exceptional leadership and team-building skills with a track record of mentoring technical teams
  • • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities
