📋 Description

• As the Data Lead at Goodstack, you will be instrumental in architecting and spearheading our data function during a pivotal period of rapid growth. • You will be responsible for establishing the foundational data infrastructure, defining robust processes, and ensuring that data and evidence are seamlessly integrated into all strategic planning and operational activities. This is a hands-on leadership position where you will not only manage and develop a small, impactful team but also actively contribute to the technical execution.
• Your primary mission is to build a high-impact data function that serves as a cornerstone for informed decision-making and strategic advantage across all teams. In the immediate term, your focus will be on assessing and stabilizing existing tools and workflows to ensure reliability and efficiency.
• Looking ahead, you will develop and implement a scalable, long-term data strategy, recruit and cultivate a talented data team, and establish yourself as a trusted advisor to the leadership team, guiding them with critical insights and recommendations.
• Key responsibilities include conducting a thorough audit of the current data stack, including tools like dbt and Snowflake, to identify potential reliability risks and define a comprehensive, scalable data strategy that is intrinsically aligned with the company's overarching business objectives.
• You will be tasked with building and maintaining reliable reporting mechanisms and dashboards that directly inform and drive critical business decisions, thereby reducing reliance on reactive problem-solving by enhancing the foundational data systems.
• A significant aspect of this role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams, including Product, RevOps, Operations, and senior leadership. You will translate complex business questions into actionable data solutions and provide data-backed support for goal-setting, defining clear Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Objectives and Key Results (OKRs).
• You will own the maintenance and evolution of our data warehouse, data pipelines, and analytics tools, focusing on improving data accessibility, integrity, and overall trust across the organization.
• Building and leading the data team is a core component of this role. You will define the future structure of the data team, recruit top talent, and manage a small, hands-on team encompassing data engineering, analytics, and planning functions.
• Furthermore, you will champion a company-wide data culture, fostering an environment where data-driven insights are trusted, proactively utilized, and considered fundamental to all planning processes.
• Success within the first three months will be measured by your ability to map current systems and identify risks, pinpoint pain points stemming from resource constraints, and stabilize critical dashboards and workflows to reduce reactive firefighting. You will also set a clear strategic direction for a more analytical and less reactive data function.
• Beyond the initial three months, success will be demonstrated through the establishment of a clear structure and roadmap for long-term data function sustainability, increased organizational trust in data leading to reduced ad-hoc data requests, and a more predictable, structured delivery of data-related tasks and projects.

🎯 Requirements

• Minimum of 7 years of experience in building and scaling data functions within fast-growing companies.
• Proficiency with modern data stack tools such as dbt, Airflow, Looker, Snowflake, and Databricks, coupled with strong SQL and Python or Typescript skills.
• Demonstrated ability to think strategically while remaining hands-on with technical execution when required.
• Excellent communication and influencing skills, with a proven track record of using data to drive decisions and persuade stakeholders.
• Proven experience in team building and leadership, with a strong bias for impactful results.
