📋 Description

• As a Data Science Manager within Monzo's Payments team, you will be instrumental in shaping the future of our financial products and driving significant revenue and customer growth. This role offers a unique opportunity to lead a talented team of Data Scientists and Data Analysts, fostering a culture of data-driven decision-making and innovation within an agile product environment.
• You will be a key leader in building and nurturing a world-class discipline of data professionals dedicated to making Monzo's Payments products and customer experience exceptional. This involves not only technical leadership but also a strong focus on people management, including hiring, developing, and retaining top data talent.
• Your responsibilities will extend to collaborating closely with senior leaders across Monzo, including Product and Engineering, to ensure the successful delivery of impactful products for our customers. You will bring strategic data leadership and rigorous analytical approaches to our product development lifecycle, developing a deep strategic understanding of the business.
• A core part of your role will be structuring complex data science projects from conception to completion, ensuring they align with business objectives and deliver tangible results. You will define the long-term strategy for the Payments Data team, creating comprehensive roadmaps that guide all team projects and initiatives.
• You will be responsible for generating critical insights that have the potential to fundamentally change the direction of our Payments strategy. This includes advising on and contributing to Monzo's global expansion strategy for Payments, ensuring data informs these ambitious plans.
• Effective liaison with Product and Engineering managers will be crucial to ensure the right data is collected to produce relevant and actionable business insights. You will champion the use of data, transforming raw ideas into impactful solutions through a rigorous analytical approach.
• The Payments Collective, of which your team is a part, exists to provide a robust platform for launching banking products with confidence. Your work will directly contribute to making Monzo's global ambitions a reality, enabling revenue and customer growth through a resilient, self-serve banking platform.
• You will leverage Monzo's powerful, real-time analytics infrastructure, which empowers the wider business. With 90% of day-to-day data-driven decisions covered by self-serve analytics via Looker, your team will have the space to focus on more complex, high-impact business questions and analyses.
• Your day-to-day will involve hands-on leadership, guiding your team through the complexities of data science challenges in the payments domain. You will foster an environment of continuous learning and improvement, encouraging the team to explore and apply cutting-edge data science techniques.
• You will work with a modern technology stack, including Google Cloud Platform, dbt, BigQuery SQL, and Python for data science. While prior experience with every tool isn't expected, a strong foundation in data science principles and a willingness to learn are essential.
• This role requires a strategic thinker who can translate business needs into data science solutions and effectively communicate complex findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You will be a bridge between the data science team and the broader business, ensuring alignment and maximizing the impact of data initiatives.

🎯 Requirements

• Proven experience managing and developing a team of Data Scientists and/or Data Analysts.
• Strong strategic data leadership capabilities, with a passion for using data to inform and improve business decisions.
• Experience working with and managing stakeholders across various levels of seniority and disciplines, including executive or C-level peers.
• Proficiency in a variety of Data Science tools and techniques (e.g., business intelligence, experimentation, causal inference, machine learning) and coding languages (Python and SQL).
• Experience in building data products or contributing significantly to data-driven product development.
