Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Own the end-to-end architecture of Waystar’s next-generation data science platform, the engine that trains, validates, and serves predictive models that touch more than 500,000 providers and 1,000 health systems. Your code will directly influence how quickly we can surface life-changing insights from billions of clinical notes and claims.
- • Design and evolve scalable, cloud-native microservices that orchestrate model training pipelines, feature stores, and real-time inference endpoints. You will write Python and Java services that run on Kubernetes, leverage Kafka for event streaming, and store metadata in PostgreSQL, ensuring sub-second latency for high-throughput healthcare transactions.
- • Build reusable MLOps frameworks that empower our data scientists to experiment, version, and deploy models without ever touching infrastructure. This includes CI/CD templates, automated testing harnesses, model registry integrations, and canary deployment strategies that meet HIPAA-grade security and compliance standards.
- • Expand our natural-language-processing capabilities by engineering high-performance text-preprocessing, tokenization, and embedding pipelines. You will integrate cutting-edge libraries (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Triton) to extract machine-consumable meaning from unstructured clinical documentation, driving breakthroughs in denial prediction, prior-authorization automation, and revenue-cycle optimization.
- • Champion observability and reliability: implement distributed tracing, metrics dashboards, and alerting that give teams real-time visibility into model drift, data quality anomalies, and service health. When production issues arise, you will lead deep technical investigations and deliver permanent fixes that keep our platform resilient 24/7.
- • Collaborate cross-functionally with data scientists, product managers, security engineers, and clinical domain experts to translate complex healthcare workflows into elegant software solutions. Your ability to communicate technical trade-offs clearly will ensure that every release balances innovation, compliance, and user experience.
- • Continuously modernize our stack by evaluating emerging technologies in AI, NLP, and large-scale data processing. Whether it’s experimenting with new GPU scheduling frameworks or adopting serverless inference patterns, you will separate hype from value and shepherd successful pilots into production.
- • Contribute to a culture of engineering excellence through rigorous code reviews, architectural decision records, and internal tech talks. You will mentor junior engineers and champion best practices that keep our small, high-impact team productive and joyful.
🎯 Requirements
- • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related area plus 3+ years of professional experience writing production-grade Python or Java
- • Intermediate proficiency with SQL and hands-on experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred)
- • Demonstrated expertise with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and microservices architectures
- • Professional experience deploying and operating services on AWS or GCP
- • Preferred: hands-on MLOps experience (ClearML, Triton), Kafka event streaming, PyTorch/TensorFlow, and familiarity with healthcare or statistics
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive total rewards package—base salary plus performance bonus
- • Customizable benefits: three medical plan options with HSA company match, pet insurance, and 401(k) with company match
- • Generous paid time off—3 weeks for non-exempt roles plus 13 paid holidays (including 2 personal floating holidays); flexible PTO for exempt roles
- • Paid parental leave (maternity and paternity), adoption assistance, fertility support, and free mental-health programs
- • Education assistance and free LinkedIn Learning access to fuel continuous growth
