📋 Description

• As a Data Scientist at M-KOPA Holdings Limited, you will own the predictive models that shape loan eligibility and pricing across five African markets, directly influencing lending strategy for millions of underserved customers seeking financial inclusion.
• Day to day, you will build and refine credit scoring models assessing creditworthiness and default risk, develop and test ML models for loan pricing through A/B testing, improve eligibility criteria by analyzing repayment data, and collaborate cross-functionally with engineers and commercial teams to deploy models into production.
• You will join a small, high-performing team with end-to-end ownership of credit scoring and pricing, operating in a low-ego environment that values innovation, diversity, and analytical rigor while driving both commercial growth and social impact across multiple countries.
• In this role, you will deepen your expertise in credit risk modeling, gain experience deploying ML systems at scale in emerging markets, and contribute to measurable social outcomes including expanded financial access, income generation, and carbon-negative operations.

🎯 Requirements

• Experience building predictive models, particularly credit scoring, risk models, or similar classification/regression problems
• ML background with hands-on experience in model development, validation, deployment, and performance monitoring
• Proficiency in Python, SQL, and relevant ML libraries (scikit-learn, pandas, numpy) with experience in feature engineering, model selection, and hyperparameter tuning
• Experience translating complex model outputs into actionable business strategies and stakeholder communications
• Ability to work cross-functionally with product, engineering, and commercial teams
• Strong data communication skills — written, oral, and visual
