With cybercrime projected to cost the world $10.5 trillion annually by 2025, your role as a PostgreSQL Database Engineer is crucial in building a more secure digital future.
• • This remote position, based in the UK, Ireland, or Portugal, requires candidates to have work authorization in one of these countries, with optional office access in London, Dublin, and Lisbon.
• • Your primary mission will be to manage, optimize, and ensure the scalability, efficiency, and maintainability of our PostgreSQL infrastructure, particularly within the AWS ecosystem.
• • You will be instrumental in administering, monitoring, and fine-tuning PostgreSQL databases hosted on Amazon RDS and Aurora, ensuring their optimal performance and reliability.
• • A significant part of your responsibility will involve performing essential database maintenance tasks, including rigorous backup validation, replication checks, timely patching, and seamless upgrades to keep our systems robust and secure.
• • You will act as a key collaborator with our development teams, providing expert guidance on SQL query optimization, database object enhancements, and the development and maintenance of PL/pgSQL routines.
• • Your expertise will extend to contributing to data modeling initiatives, ensuring that our database structures are designed for maximum performance and future scalability.
• • A critical aspect of this role involves setting up and meticulously fine-tuning database performance metrics, logs, and alerts. You will leverage tools such as AWS CloudWatch, pg_stat_statements, and others to proactively identify and address performance bottlenecks.
• • You will be tasked with identifying and implementing improvements for slow-running queries, directly impacting application responsiveness and user experience.
• • Implementing and managing robust access control, auditing, and security policies will be a core responsibility, ensuring adherence to organizational standards and best practices for data protection.
• • You will be responsible for creating and maintaining comprehensive database documentation, as well as developing and managing deployment scripts to ensure consistency and efficiency in our database operations.
• • Contributing to and championing best practices for schema changes, migrations, and version control of database objects is essential. Experience with GitHub will be a significant advantage in this area.
• • You will play a vital role in our DevOps processes, contributing to the automation of database CI/CD pipelines and schema deployment processes, thereby enhancing our development agility.
• • This role demands a proactive approach to problem-solving, a strong sense of ownership, and a commitment to seeing issues through to resolution, ensuring the stability and integrity of our data systems.
• • You will be expected to actively participate in code reviews, offering constructive feedback and suggestions to enhance database interactions and overall application performance.
