- • Harris Computer Systems Corporation is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Database Administrator (DBA) to join our dynamic team. This is a remote position based in India, requiring a dedicated individual with a robust background in SQL Server and proven experience in maintaining and administering very large databases (VLDBs) within a production environment. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, eager to learn, and capable of contributing significantly to a small but dedicated group of data experts.
- • As a Database Administrator, you will be entrusted with the critical responsibility of administering production databases, primarily utilizing SQL Server. These databases can span up to terabytes in size, demanding a keen focus on ensuring their continuous availability, optimal performance, complete recoverability, and stringent security. Your role will be pivotal in safeguarding the integrity and accessibility of our clients' and internal project teams' data.
- • A significant aspect of this role involves managing the frequent incoming data feeds that populate these extensive databases. You will be responsible for overseeing and maintaining a custom ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) process, ensuring that data is accurately and efficiently integrated into the production environment. This requires a deep understanding of data flow, transformation logic, and the ability to troubleshoot any issues that may arise within the ETL pipeline.
- • You will provide high-quality, tier-two production support for both our external clients and internal project teams. This involves responding to incidents, diagnosing complex database issues, and implementing effective solutions to minimize downtime and ensure client satisfaction. Your ability to communicate technical information clearly and concisely to a variety of stakeholders will be crucial in this capacity.
- • The role also encompasses the deployment of releases and the application of necessary patches to the production environment. This requires meticulous planning, execution, and validation to ensure that updates are implemented smoothly without compromising database stability or performance. You will work closely with development and operations teams to coordinate these activities.
- • You will be an integral part of a small, highly skilled team of data experts. Collaboration, knowledge sharing, and a collective commitment to excellence will be key to the team's success. You will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of innovative solutions for high-quality monitoring of database systems and to continuously improve our administrative processes.
- • This position requires participation in an on-call rotation with several other DBAs. This ensures that our production environments are supported around the clock, and you will be expected to respond to critical incidents outside of standard working hours when scheduled. This aspect of the role underscores the importance of reliability and dedication.
- • The ideal candidate will possess 4-5 years of hands-on experience with SQL Server, specifically versions R2 and newer, with a preference for SQL Server 2016. A minimum of 3 years of experience maintaining and administering databases in a live production setting is essential. You should demonstrate a self-starting attitude, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and a strong, intrinsic desire to continuously learn and expand your technical skillset. A solid understanding of T-SQL is a prerequisite, along with proven experience in query tuning to optimize database performance.
- • Furthermore, the ability to effectively manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment is critical. You will be juggling multiple tasks, projects, and support requests, requiring excellent organizational and time-management skills. Your critical thinking abilities will be invaluable in analyzing complex situations and developing robust solutions. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are paramount for effective collaboration and client interaction. The capacity to work independently, taking ownership of tasks and driving them to completion, is also highly valued.
