📋 Description

• Serve as the senior legal advisor to product, engineering, hardware, cryptography, and design teams across the full lifecycle of Tools for Humanity’s products, including Orb, World ID, World App, and World Chain
• Advise on complex legal and regulatory issues related to digital identity systems, biometrics, blockchain infrastructure, decentralized finance products, consumer protection, privacy-preserving technologies, online safety, platform governance, financial regulations, and AI-enabled systems
• Partner with product and engineering leaders to assess legal and reputational risks associated with new features, product experiments, and business models
• Design practical, scalable approaches for launching global products across diverse and evolving regulatory environments
• Translate complex legal and policy considerations into clear, actionable guidance for technical and non-legal stakeholders
• Lead the company’s global intellectual property strategy covering patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, licensing, and open source governance
• Advise on IP protection strategies for software, hardware, AI systems, cryptography, identity technologies, and consumer products
• Manage IP risk assessments, freedom-to-operate analyses, licensing negotiations, infringement claims, and disputes
• Partner with engineering and research teams to identify, document, and protect strategic innovations and inventions
• Oversee relationships with external IP counsel and manage global IP filings and enforcement
• Develop scalable internal processes for invention capture, open source compliance, brand protection, and IP audits
• Build and scale a high-performing global product and IP legal function capable of supporting rapid technological innovation
• Create playbooks, review frameworks, escalation models, and self-service guidance to increase organizational velocity while maintaining legal oversight
• Improve cross-functional processes, tooling, and operational systems to streamline product reviews and launch workflows
• Mentor and develop attorneys and legal professionals across the legal team
• Collaborate effectively with other legal functions including privacy, regulatory, commercial, employment, litigation, security, and corporate legal teams
• Work in-person from the San Francisco office to support day-to-day collaboration with product, engineering, and executive leadership
• Navigate ambiguous and rapidly evolving legal landscapes where precedent is limited, particularly at the intersection of AI, human verification, and decentralized technologies
• Balance legal rigor with business execution in a fast-moving environment to enable innovation without compromising compliance or reputation
• Support global deployment of products across 160+ countries with awareness of multi-jurisdictional legal requirements

🎯 Requirements

• 10–20+ years of experience as a product, technology, intellectual property, or privacy attorney at a leading law firm and in senior in-house legal roles supporting consumer technology or highly regulated technology platforms
• Significant experience advising on complex product counseling issues in emerging technologies including digital identity, biometrics, blockchain, and AI
• Strong intellectual property background with substantial experience managing patents, trademarks, copyrights, licensing, and open source matters
• Experience supporting globally distributed products and navigating multi-jurisdictional legal and regulatory environments
• Juris Doctor from a top-tier law school
• Membership in at least one U.S. state bar
