- • Design and implement intuitive, pixel-perfect interfaces for a complex AI-powered protein design platform used by biologists and researchers, focusing on experiment tracking, ML workflow configuration, and result exploration views.
- • Work fluidly across UX research, visual design, and frontend engineering, building interactive prototypes in code when static mockups fail to capture interaction nuances or user behavior.
- • Own end-to-end delivery of product features—from ambiguous problem definition to testable, shippable prototypes—using a bias toward action and iterative refinement.
- • Maintain and evolve the design system with deep attention to layout, motion, color, affordances, and visual polish, ensuring consistency across dense, data-heavy interfaces.
- • Translate complex biological data and ML outputs into clear, legible visualizations that help expert users interpret unfamiliar results without oversimplifying underlying complexity.
- • Prioritize load-bearing details over surface polish, identifying constraints that cannot change and designing interfaces that respect those boundaries while maximizing usability.
- • Implement responsive, component-driven UIs using TypeScript, React, and modern CSS, ensuring pixel-level fidelity and smooth transitions across all states and edge cases.
- • Collaborate closely with UX researchers, frontend engineers, and domain experts (biologists) to build shared understanding and align on product direction through tangible, clickable prototypes.
- • Advocate for high-quality interaction design by focusing on transitions, states, data density, and micro-interactions that signal craftsmanship to expert users.
- • Use AI-native tooling (e.g., Claude, Cursor) to accelerate iteration cycles, reduce repetitive tasks, and enhance prototyping speed without compromising design integrity.
- • Design interfaces for expert practitioner audiences where complexity is earned by domain depth, ensuring tools feel powerful yet navigable under high information load.
- • Contribute to the evolution of data-dense interfaces including charts, tables, and quantitative displays, applying principled encoding choices to make complex information legible and actionable.
- • Take ownership of frontend concerns including state management, data fetching, and API integration to independently drive features from concept to production.
- • Maintain a high bar for visual excellence in interfaces that serve mission-critical scientific workflows, where clarity, precision, and reliability are non-negotiable.
🎯 Requirements
- • Strong design taste and sharp attention to detail evident in both visual and behavioral aspects of shipped product work, demonstrated through a portfolio
- • Experience creating and maintaining design systems with deep care for layout, motion, affordances, color, and visual polish
- • Expertise in modern frontend technologies: TypeScript, React, CSS, and component-driven architectures
- • Self-starter with an end-to-end owner’s mindset, bias to ship and iterate, and fluency in AI-native tooling (e.g., Claude, Cursor)
- • Strong communicator who builds shared understanding across scientists, designers, and engineers
- • Typically 5+ years of relevant experience, with emphasis on depth and quality of shipped work over years on CV
