Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Shape the future of Collective as our Design Lead—owning Growth & Activation from 0-to-1 and beyond. You’ll sit at the intersection of product, engineering, and business strategy, translating complex fintech workflows into elegant, human-centered experiences that delight freelancers and small-business owners.
- • Own the end-to-end design lifecycle for two of our highest-impact product pillars: (1) Growth—how new users discover, sign up, and onboard—and (2) Activation—the critical first 30 days where members set up tax withholding, banking, and invoicing. Your work will directly influence conversion, retention, and lifetime value.
- • Establish and evangelize a world-class design process. From early ethnographic research and Jobs-to-Be-Done interviews to rapid prototyping, usability testing, and polished UI specs, you’ll codify rituals that let the team move fast without sacrificing craft.
- • Partner daily with a tight-knit, cross-functional squad of PMs, engineers, data scientists, and marketers. You’ll run design sprints, facilitate ideation workshops, and translate OKRs into concrete interaction flows, ensuring every pixel ladders up to measurable business outcomes.
- • Craft a scalable design system that unifies web, iOS, and emerging surfaces. You’ll define tokens, components, and patterns that empower designers and engineers to ship consistent, accessible experiences as Collective expands into new verticals and geographies.
- • Champion accessibility, inclusivity, and ethical design. You’ll conduct regular audits, mentor junior designers on WCAG best practices, and ensure our product works beautifully for users with diverse abilities, devices, and financial literacy levels.
- • Leverage quantitative and qualitative insights to prioritize ruthlessly. You’ll instrument funnels, run A/B tests, and synthesize user feedback into clear problem statements, then iterate until metrics—and real people—validate your solutions.
- • Elevate the visual and interaction bar across the company. From motion micro-interactions to marketing landing pages, your taste and attention to detail will set the tone for a brand that feels both trustworthy and joyful.
- • Mentor and grow the design team. You’ll give weekly design critiques, pair on thorny UX challenges, and build a culture of generous feedback that turns good designers into great ones.
- • Contribute to strategic roadmap planning. You’ll translate market trends, regulatory changes, and competitive intel into design opportunities that keep Collective two steps ahead in the rapidly evolving fintech landscape.
🎯 Requirements
- • 6–8 years of end-to-end product design experience, with at least 3 years owning major growth or onboarding flows in a consumer or fintech product
- • Demonstrated impact on product strategy—portfolio must show shipped features that materially moved acquisition, activation, or retention metrics
- • Mastery of Figma, modern design systems, and accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1)
- • Strong visual design craft—typography, color, layout, motion—and the ability to balance beauty with conversion-oriented UX
- • Systems thinker who can map complex user journeys across web, mobile, email, and support touchpoints
🏖️ Benefits
- • Hybrid work model—San Francisco HQ with flexible remote days and $150/month commuter stipend
- • Daily fresh lunch when in office, plus $200 quarterly wellness reimbursement
- • 100% medical, dental, and vision for employees; 75% for dependents, plus 16 weeks fully paid parental leave
- • Flexible PTO plus 14 company holidays, 401(k) with match, and meaningful equity package
- • Quarterly virtual events and an annual in-person team summit in a destination location
