đź“‹ Description

  • • Join Fundraise Up as a DevOps Engineer / SRE and play a pivotal role in ensuring the scalability, security, and exceptional reliability of our global fundraising platform. This is a unique opportunity to operate as a generalist, impacting our entire infrastructure from server provisioning and CI/CD pipelines to observability and database management. Your work will directly contribute to our mission of making donating to nonprofits fast, seamless, and accessible, powering tens of millions of dollars in donations each month.
  • • You will be instrumental in maintaining and enhancing our robust technology stack, which includes Node.js (Koa, NestJS) and MongoDB for the backend, and Webpack, Vue.js, and React for the frontend, with a strong emphasis on TypeScript. We leverage Kafka for high-throughput messaging and Bull (Redis) for background processing, while ClickHouse stores our analytics data and Elasticsearch powers our search capabilities.
  • • Your responsibilities will span across the operational lifecycle of our complex product ecosystem. This includes managing servers (both VMs and bare metal) at the OS level, focusing on configuration, meticulous maintenance, and proactive troubleshooting to prevent any disruptions.
  • • A key aspect of this role involves automating infrastructure and routine operational tasks. You will utilize tools like Ansible and develop custom scripts in Bash or Python to streamline processes, reduce manual effort, and enhance efficiency across the board.
  • • You will be tasked with building, maintaining, and supporting our complex CI/CD pipelines. We rely on scripted pipelines in Jenkins, and your expertise will be crucial in ensuring smooth, reliable, and efficient deployment processes for our diverse range of applications, including standalone SPAs for checkout experiences, customizable widgets, donor portals, organization and partner portals, admin tools, and internal applications.
  • • Developing and supporting our monitoring and observability stack is another critical function. You will work with Prometheus-style metrics, VictoriaMetrics, Grafana, and Graylog to ensure we have deep visibility into system performance, identify potential issues before they impact users, and maintain optimal operational health.
  • • You will gain hands-on experience with our databases and data systems, specifically ClickHouse and MongoDB. Your focus will be on monitoring their performance, ensuring their operational stability, and contributing to their efficient functioning within our data-intensive environment.
  • • A significant part of your role will involve investigating and resolving complex issues that may arise across the Linux OS, networking layers, and application layers. This requires a systematic approach to problem-solving and a deep understanding of how different components interact.
  • • Collaboration is key. You will work closely with engineers across various teams to share knowledge, implement best practices, and collectively improve system reliability and automation efforts. Your insights and contributions will be valued in fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • • You will take ownership of production systems, ensuring their stability, predictability, and high availability. This involves being proactive in identifying risks, implementing preventative measures, and responding effectively to any incidents that may occur.
  • • This role offers the chance to work within a distributed team of over 120 product professionals, including more than 35 engineers, primarily located across Europe. You'll be part of a culture that values deep technical curiosity, knowledge sharing, thoughtful collaboration, strong engineering practices, and a product mindset. With many developers bringing 5-10+ years of experience, you'll have ample opportunities for mentorship and learning.
  • • Fundraise Up is recognized for its quality product, boasting a 4.9/5 rating on top software review platforms. We are trusted by leading nonprofits like UNICEF and the Alzheimer’s Association, demonstrating the significant impact of our technology. Joining us means contributing to a mission-driven organization that is making a real difference in the world of philanthropy.

  • • Experience working with servers (VMs and/or bare metal), including setup and troubleshooting at the OS level.
  • • Proficiency in building and maintaining complex CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins experience is a major plus).
  • • Good understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP and firewall configuration (iptables).
  • • Experience with monitoring and observability principles (Prometheus/VictoriaMetrics stack preferred).
