  • • Forbright Bank is seeking a visionary and results-driven Director, Credit and Underwriting, to spearhead the credit function for our rapidly expanding Equipment Finance platform. This is a pivotal leadership role, offering the opportunity to shape the credit strategy, establish robust underwriting standards, and govern the overall risk framework for a national equipment finance operation. As a key member of our dynamic and mission-driven team, you will play an instrumental role in driving disciplined growth, ensuring exceptional asset quality, maintaining rigorous regulatory compliance, and achieving attractive risk-adjusted returns.
  • • In this executive capacity, you will be the senior credit authority for the Equipment Finance platform. Your responsibilities will encompass the full spectrum of credit lifecycle management, from initial deal structuring and underwriting to portfolio monitoring and risk mitigation. You will collaborate closely with the President of Asset Finance, Credit, Portfolio Management, Risk, Finance, and senior management to align credit policies with the bank's strategic objectives and risk appetite. This role demands a strategic thinker with a proven ability to balance aggressive growth targets with prudent risk management, ensuring the long-term health and profitability of the platform.
  • • A core aspect of this position involves designing and implementing scalable credit processes that can effectively support our national equipment finance strategy. You will be responsible for establishing clear and comprehensive risk appetite frameworks, ensuring that all underwriting activities are conducted within defined parameters. Furthermore, you will lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing underwriting team, fostering a culture of excellence, continuous improvement, and strong ethical conduct. Your leadership will be critical in building a team capable of navigating complex financial structures and diverse client needs.
  • • You will be directly accountable for the quality of the credit portfolio, proactively identifying and addressing potential risks. This includes developing and implementing strategies to manage credit exposure, optimize asset quality, and ensure compliance with all relevant banking regulations and internal policies. Your insights and recommendations will be crucial in guiding the bank's lending decisions and safeguarding its financial integrity.
  • • The Director will also be responsible for investment approvals within their delegated authority and will present complex or high-value transactions to the Credit Committee for review and approval. This requires a deep understanding of financial analysis, market dynamics, and risk assessment methodologies. You will need to articulate credit recommendations clearly and persuasively, supported by sound analytical reasoning and a comprehensive understanding of the associated risks and rewards.
  • • Key responsibilities include:
  • • Developing and executing the credit strategy for the Equipment Finance platform, ensuring alignment with Forbright Bank's overall business objectives and risk appetite.
  • • Establishing and maintaining rigorous underwriting standards, policies, and procedures that promote consistent, disciplined, and compliant lending practices.
  • • Leading, mentoring, and developing a team of skilled credit analysts and underwriters, fostering a high-performance culture focused on accuracy, efficiency, and professional growth.
  • • Overseeing the credit approval process, ensuring timely and accurate assessment of credit risk for all new originations.
  • • Actively managing the credit portfolio, monitoring performance, identifying trends, and implementing proactive risk mitigation strategies.
  • • Collaborating with Sales, Portfolio Management, Risk, and Finance teams to ensure seamless integration of credit processes and effective portfolio management.
  • • Serving as the primary point of contact for credit-related matters within the Equipment Finance platform, including interactions with internal and external auditors and regulators.
  • • Staying abreast of industry trends, economic conditions, and regulatory changes that may impact the Equipment Finance portfolio and adjusting credit strategies accordingly.
  • • Presenting credit proposals and portfolio reviews to senior management and the Credit Committee, providing clear and concise analysis and recommendations.
  • • Driving innovation in credit processes and technology to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
  • • Ensuring adherence to all applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies, maintaining a strong culture of compliance and ethical conduct.
  • • Contributing to the development and refinement of the bank's overall risk management framework.
  • • This role is ideal for a seasoned credit professional with a strong track record in equipment finance, who thrives in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment and is passionate about building and leading high-performing teams. You will be instrumental in shaping the future of Forbright Bank's Equipment Finance business, contributing to our mission of building a brighter future for our clients and the communities we serve.
