📋 Description

• As Director of Compliance and Legal at Hippocratic AI, you will build and lead the legal and compliance infrastructure that enables the company to scale its generative AI platform across pharma, medtech, diagnostics, and global regulated environments, directly supporting enterprise sales and customer trust in a high-growth, mission-driven healthcare AI company.
• You will serve as the primary legal and compliance partner to pharma and enterprise customers, leading contract negotiations, developing compliance playbooks, and ensuring alignment with healthcare regulations such as HIPAA, PhRMA Code, anti-kickback statutes, and Sunshine Act requirements to accelerate deal cycles and reduce customer friction.
• Day to day, you will lead commercial contract negotiations including NDAs, MSAs, BAAs, DPAs, and licensing terms; develop standardized contract playbooks with fallback positions; act as the main legal point of contact for customer legal, procurement, and compliance teams; and provide commercially focused guidance on liability, indemnification, IP, data rights, and regulatory obligations.
• You will build and operationalize a customer-facing compliance program covering healthcare regulations, industry codes, and transparency reporting; create audit-readiness materials; participate in vendor assessments and governance reviews; and advise Sales and Customer Success on navigating complex pharma onboarding and compliance workflows.
• You will own data privacy and information governance strategy across HIPAA, GDPR, and state laws; develop privacy policies and breach procedures; serve as the primary contact for customer privacy and security teams; and partner with Engineering and Product to embed privacy-by-design principles into the platform.
• You will monitor evolving AI healthcare regulations including FDA AI/ML guidance and the EU AI Act; partner with Medical Affairs on MLR and adverse event reporting; support regulatory conversations with pharma stakeholders; and develop AI governance documentation that demonstrates responsible AI practices to enterprise customers.
• You will report to the VP of Medical Affairs and collaborate closely with the President of Life Sciences, Chief Commercial Officer, Sales, Legal, Customer Success, Product, and Engineering teams to ensure compliance and legal operations scale with commercial momentum.
• In this role, you will have the opportunity to shape the compliance and legal foundation of a category-defining healthcare AI company, gain deep exposure to cutting-edge generative AI in regulated healthcare, and build scalable legal operations that directly enable global enterprise adoption and patient impact.

🎯 Requirements

• 7–15 years of experience in legal, compliance, or regulatory roles within healthcare, pharma, biotech, digital health, or life sciences services organizations; JD from an accredited law school required.
• Significant experience negotiating enterprise commercial contracts with pharma and large healthcare organizations, including MSAs, BAAs, DPAs, and technology licensing agreements.
• Strong working knowledge of healthcare compliance frameworks including HIPAA, anti-kickback statute, False Claims Act, Sunshine Act, PhRMA Code, and state-level healthcare regulations.
• Direct experience engaging with pharma legal, compliance, procurement, and governance teams as part of enterprise sales or vendor qualification processes.
• Ability to build compliance programs and legal operations from early stages in high-growth environments with limited structure.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to make complex legal and regulatory concepts accessible to both customers and internal non-legal teams.
