📋 Description

• As Director of Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO) at Ground News, you will hold end-to-end accountability for improving, scaling, and monitoring all user conversion flows across web and mobile app platforms, directly impacting the company’s ability to turn anonymous readers into lifelong subscribers through data-informed, mission-aligned growth strategies.
• Day to day, you will architect and optimize mobile app onboarding and in-app purchase funnels, lead web funnel strategy and redesign, own content metering and paywall architecture, design and analyze high-velocity A/B and multivariate tests, partner with Product, Analytics, and Engineering teams to ensure flawless tracking and execution, and establish dashboards to monitor core subscription health metrics like trial-to-paid conversion and checkout abandonment.
• Ground News is a remote-first, mission-driven news comparison platform founded by a former NASA engineer and Bain consultant, supported by reader subscriptions rather than ad-driven algorithms, with a goal to foster media literacy and civil discourse by helping users navigate bias and see multiple perspectives on news stories.
• In this role, you will deepen your expertise in subscription growth mechanics, behavioral analytics, and cross-functional influence, while shaping the acquisition strategy of a purpose-led product that empowers users to think critically about the information they consume.

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of experience specializing in conversion rate optimization (CRO), growth marketing, or product-led growth (PLG) within a D2C subscription or consumer-centric product, with personal ownership of conversion outcomes
• Strong baseline familiarity with SQL to write queries, segment data, and independently validate funnel performance
• Deep, systemic understanding of digital subscription mechanics, user psychology during checkout, and native mobile payment behaviors (Apple IAP / Google Play Billing)
• Proven ability to drive outcomes through cross-functional influence with Product, Engineering, and Marketing teams without direct authority
• Self-directed operator who builds frameworks from scratch, sets clean testing hypotheses, and moves fast while maintaining analytical rigor
