- • KBR is seeking a visionary and results-oriented Director of Engineering to spearhead the Mission Software capability area within the Office of the CTO. This pivotal role is designed for a seasoned technical leader who will define the strategic technical direction, establish robust reference architectures, and set high delivery standards for all mission software investments across KBR's IR&D portfolio. You will also provide critical technical guidance for key capture efforts and ongoing program execution activities, ensuring KBR remains at the cutting edge of national security solutions.
- • As the primary steward of the Mission Software Initiative, you will be instrumental in driving its success from roadmap definition and execution to aligning with KBR's broader technology strategy and future objectives. Your responsibilities will encompass fostering customer engagement, ensuring seamless technical integration across diverse programs, and championing innovation in mission-critical software.
- • **CTO Initiative Ownership:** You will lead the charge for the Mission Software Initiative, meticulously defining, managing, and executing multiple complex projects and their associated roadmap elements. This includes rigorously tracking initiative Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), technical milestones, identifying and mitigating risks, managing resourcing needs, and ensuring unwavering alignment with the Mission Tech Technology Strategy and KBR's 2030 objectives. A key aspect of this leadership involves close coordination with other initiative leads to ensure cohesive, enterprise-wide advancement and synergy.
- • **IR&D Strategy & Technical Review:** You will play a crucial role in shaping KBR's research and development investments by reviewing IR&D proposals specifically related to mission software. Your evaluation will focus on feasibility, desirability, and strategic impact, ensuring that KBR's R&D efforts are focused on developing cutting-edge, future-ready mission capabilities. You will actively shape IR&D investments to prioritize open architectures, cloud-native mission software solutions, and the development of next-generation mission capabilities that anticipate future defense and national security needs.
- • **Customer Engagement & Capture Support:** This role demands strong technical leadership in supporting capture efforts and pursuits involving complex mission systems. You will provide expert guidance on areas such as Open Mission Systems (OMS), the Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE) standard, mission applications, autonomy frameworks, and digitally enabled Command and Control (C2) systems. A significant part of your engagement will involve direct interaction with customers to help shape their technical requirements, explore viable architecture options, and define effective integration pathways, ensuring KBR's solutions meet and exceed customer expectations.
- • **Cross Portfolio Mentorship & Knowledge Development:** You will act as a technical mentor and thought leader for engineers across various Business Units (BUs). Your guidance will focus on critical areas including mission architecture, DevSecOps principles, software assurance, digital engineering practices, and platform-agnostic integration approaches. You will actively sponsor and contribute to Communities of Practice, develop comprehensive capability catalogs, define reusable software patterns, and enhance enterprise knowledge management systems. Furthermore, you will be responsible for defining and propagating best practices in DevSecOps across all relevant programs. This includes driving adoption of Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) automation, robust software assurance methodologies, efficient test harnesses, secure coding policies, and advanced cloud orchestration approaches, thereby elevating the overall software development maturity across KBR.
- • Your work will directly impact the nation's most critical missions, contributing to the design, development, and optimization of defense and intelligence systems. You will be at the forefront of innovation, working on projects that are essential for national security and shaping the future of space defense and related domains. This is an opportunity to lead, innovate, and make a tangible difference in a highly impactful and collaborative environment.
