📋 Description

• As Director of Engineering for Front-end and Ordering Platform at ezCater, you will lead the experience layer that transforms a headless API platform into a customer-facing product used by both human users and AI agents, playing a critical role in the company’s mission to revolutionize workplace food ordering.
• You will own the front-end platform and architecture across Next.js (App Router), React, TypeScript, and Astro, define opinionated paths for CI/CD, observability, accessibility, and performance, and lead the full ordering experience from discovery through checkout while driving AI-native development including design-to-code pipelines and conversational ordering.
• You will lead three engineering teams (Discovery Experience, Ordering Experience, and Front-End Platform), reporting to the VP of Engineering, and be responsible for recruiting, developing, and scaling engineering talent while maintaining a high technical bar through design reviews and architectural oversight.
• You will own the design system as infrastructure, ensure front ends are machine-readable for AI agents, and gain deep impact by shaping how AI integrates with commerce protocols and internal tools, all while working in a remote-hybrid environment with significant autonomy and responsibility.

🎯 Requirements

• Demonstrated experience standing up front-end engineering organizations from scratch, not just inheriting existing teams
• Deep fluency in Next.js (App Router), React, TypeScript, and modern build tooling (e.g., Turborepo, Rspack) with hands-on architectural credibility
• Experience leading multi-team web applications with micro-frontend architectures, including strong opinions on composition strategies, state sharing, auth propagation, and contract testing
• Ownership of a transactional customer journey (discovery, cart, checkout, payment) including BFF architectures and support for multiple customer types or ordering modes
• Practical AI fluency in front-end work: design-to-code workflows, AI-assisted testing, AI-powered product features, and infrastructure enabling AI effectiveness (component docs, API contracts, repository context)
• Expertise in performance and observability: Core Web Vitals, real user monitoring, and performance budgets enforced in CI
