Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Lead the strategic design, implementation, and continuous optimization of Make-A-Wish America’s Shared Financial Services (SFS) model, uniting finance, accounting, accounts payable, payroll, and treasury functions across 60+ chapters into one high-performing, centralized operation that supports our vision of granting every eligible child’s wish.
- • Own the end-to-end service catalog: define SLAs, KPIs, and quality standards for transactional processing, month-end close, grant reporting, and compliance; monitor dashboards daily and present insights to the CFO and chapter CEOs so that every dollar donated is stewarded with transparency and speed.
- • Architect and deploy scalable technology and process automation (ERP, AP workflow, payroll, and treasury platforms) that eliminates manual work, reduces close cycles by 30 %, and frees chapter staff to focus on wish-granting rather than paperwork.
- • Build and mentor a distributed team of 25-30 finance professionals—controllers, analysts, payroll specialists, and treasury managers—fostering a culture of inclusion, continuous improvement, and mission-driven performance; coach leaders to become trusted advisors to chapter executives.
- • Partner with Development, Programs, and Chapter Services to design financial processes that honor donor intent, satisfy GAAP, IRS, and OMB Uniform Guidance, and safeguard restricted gifts so that wish experiences remain magical and fully funded.
- • Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors, banking partners, and technology vendors; negotiate contracts that deliver best-in-class service at nonprofit-appropriate cost structures, saving at least $1 M annually through economies of scale.
- • Champion change management across a federated network: craft communication plans, training curricula, and feedback loops that turn skeptics into advocates and ensure 90 % adoption of new SFS tools within the first year.
- • Establish a robust internal-control environment (SOX-light) that mitigates risk, prevents fraud, and earns the highest ratings from annual A-133 and financial audits, reinforcing public trust in Make-A-Wish.
- • Drive data-driven decision-making by integrating SFS data with CRM and program metrics, enabling real-time visibility into cost-per-wish, fundraising ROI, and cash-flow forecasts that guide strategic investments in wish-granting capacity.
- • Spearhead special projects such as endowment accounting, gift-annuity programs, and disaster-response funding mechanisms, ensuring rapid, accurate financial support when wishes can’t wait.
- • Represent Make-A-Wish in industry forums (AFP, AICPA, NFP Finance & Accounting), sharing best practices and elevating our reputation as a fiscally responsible, innovative nonprofit leader.
- • Model our core values—integrity, compassion, inclusion, and child-focus—in every interaction, inspiring colleagues and volunteers to believe that world-class finance operations are essential to creating life-changing wish experiences.
🎯 Requirements
- • 12+ years of progressive finance leadership, including at least 5 years directing shared services or centralized accounting operations in a multi-entity environment (nonprofit, public, or Fortune 1000).
- • CPA or equivalent certification plus deep expertise in GAAP, nonprofit accounting, OMB Uniform Guidance, and SOX internal controls.
- • Proven track record of ERP implementation (Workday, Oracle, SAP, or similar) and process-automation tools that reduced close cycles and operating costs.
- • Demonstrated success leading distributed teams of 20+ staff with strong coaching, change-management, and cross-cultural communication skills.
- • Advanced Excel and data-visualization proficiency (Power BI, Tableau); experience integrating finance systems with CRM and fundraising platforms preferred.
🏖️ Benefits
- • 100 % remote-first culture with flexible hours and quarterly in-person retreats in inspiring wish-granting locations.
- • 6 weeks paid sabbatical after 7 years plus 20 days PTO, 12 holidays, and a week off between Christmas and New Year’s.
- • 100 % employer-paid medical, dental, vision, and life insurance for you and dependents; 401(k) with 6 % match and immediate vesting.
- • Annual $5,000 professional-development stipend and paid volunteer days to witness wish reveals firsthand.
