Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Join Actuaries Unlimited (AUI), a Los-Angeles-based boutique firm that has quietly become the West Coast’s most trusted partner for pension administration and retirement benefits consulting. Our nine credentialed actuaries and tight-knit support staff serve Fortune-500 subsidiaries, public-sector plans, and rapidly growing private companies who demand white-glove service and flawless execution.
- • As our new Retirement Plan Administrator you will own the day-to-day administration of 30-50 defined-benefit, cash-balance, and 401(k) plans ranging from 50 to 15,000 participants. You will be the single point of contact for plan sponsors, third-party administrators, and auditors—translating complex actuarial calculations into plain-English answers that executives and HR leaders can act on immediately.
- • You will prepare and certify IRS Forms 5500, 8955-SSA, and PBGC filings with zero-defect accuracy, leveraging AUI’s proprietary compliance engine and Excel-based valuation models. Every filing you touch will pass regulatory scrutiny the first time, reinforcing AUI’s reputation for bulletproof compliance.
- • You will calculate benefit distributions, early-retirement subsidies, and optional forms of payment using actuarial equivalence factors that you will help refine as mortality tables and interest-rate assumptions evolve. Your work will directly influence how much retirees receive each month and how sponsors budget for future obligations.
- • You will reconcile trust assets to plan liabilities monthly, spotting cash-flow mismatches before they become funding crises. When markets swing or plan demographics shift, you will model the impact in real time and present scenario analyses that allow CFOs to make informed decisions within hours, not weeks.
- • You will coordinate annual valuation cycles: gathering census data, scrubbing anomalies, loading files into our actuarial system, and producing draft valuation reports for actuarial review. Your ability to anticipate questions and package data cleanly will cut review time by 30 % and free our actuaries to focus on strategy rather than clean-up.
- • You will design and deliver participant statements, QDRO calculations, and benefit-estimate letters that demystify retirement math for employees. Your clear, jargon-free communication will reduce call-center volume and elevate AUI’s Net Promoter Score, which already sits at 78—well above industry average.
- • You will manage small client projects end-to-end: drafting plan amendments, preparing IRS determination-letter applications, and coordinating plan restatements. Your project plans will keep attorneys, recordkeepers, and payroll vendors aligned so that deadlines are met without last-minute fire drills.
- • You will mentor junior staff on compliance rules, system shortcuts, and client-service etiquette. Your coaching will expand team capacity and create a pipeline of promotable talent, reinforcing AUI’s culture of continuous learning.
- • You will participate in quarterly business-development meetings, translating client pain points into new service offerings. Your frontline insights will shape the next generation of AUI products and help us double plan count over the next three years.
- • You will work 100 % remote from anywhere in the continental U.S., supported by secure VPN, dual monitors, and a cloud-based valuation platform that mirrors the in-office experience. Occasional travel (2-3 trips per year) to Los Angeles or client sites will keep relationships personal and trust levels high.
🎯 Requirements
- • 3-7 years of hands-on experience administering defined-benefit, cash-balance, or hybrid retirement plans in a consulting, TPA, or corporate benefits environment
- • Demonstrated fluency with IRS and DOL regulations (IRC §§ 401-415, PBGC premiums, 5500 schedules) and the ability to apply them accurately under tight deadlines
- • Advanced Excel skills—pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, array formulas, and basic VBA—to manipulate census data and build error-checking routines
- • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Finance, Business, or related field; ASPPA or SOA coursework (DB, DC, or EA designations) strongly preferred
- • Client-facing polish: you can present complex findings to non-technical audiences and build trust with CFOs, HR VPs, and union trustees
🏖️ Benefits
- • Fully remote, flexible schedule—start your day at 6 a.m. or 10 a.m. as long as client deliverables are met
- • 100 % employer-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage for you and eligible dependents from day one
- • 401(k) with 6 % dollar-for-dollar match plus discretionary profit-sharing that has averaged 8 % of salary over the past five years
- • Annual professional-development stipend of $3,500 for ASPPA/SOA exams, conferences, and continuing education
- • 20 days PTO plus 10 paid holidays and a year-end shutdown between Christmas and New Year’s
