Reporting to the Director of Engineering & Technical Operations, you will steer a 25-40 person, fully-remote engineering org (Levels I-V) across the UK and North America, delivering a dual-speed roadmap that modernizes our multi-tenant, event-driven architecture while injecting cutting-edge AI/ML capabilities that redefine what RFID data can do.
- • **Engineering Leadership & People Excellence (40%)** – You will directly manage Software Engineers, Technical Leads, and QA talent, building a culture obsessed with technical excellence, psychological safety, and continuous learning. Through weekly 1:1s, quarterly OKRs, and transparent career ladders, you will coach individuals from junior coders to principal-level architects, ensuring every release meets strict SLAs for latency (<50 ms P95), availability (99.9%+), and security (SOC 2 Type II). You will champion inclusive hiring practices, run rigorous but human-centric performance reviews, and create rotation programs that expose engineers to AI prototyping, platform modernization, and customer-facing feature squads.

🎯 Requirements
- • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent; 10+ years designing and operating distributed, cloud-native SaaS systems at scale (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
- • Proven track record leading multi-quarter, multi-team technical initiatives with measurable business impact; experience with high-volume APIs, event-driven architectures, and microservices required
- • Demonstrated expertise operationalizing AI/ML technologies—translating prototypes into production features that deliver tangible ROI; hands-on with Python, PyTorch/TensorFlow, and MLOps pipelines
- • Deep knowledge of observability, reliability engineering, and security best practices; experience with SOC 2, ISO 27001, or similar compliance frameworks
- • Exceptional leadership and communication skills—able to inspire engineers, negotiate priorities with executives, and present complex technical topics to non-technical stakeholders
