đź“‹ Description

  • • **Lead the Future of RFID & AI at Brilliance Canada Inc.** – As Director, Software Development & AI Innovation you will own the end-to-end engineering vision for ClarityRFID, a high-growth SaaS platform that turns billions of real-time sensor events into actionable intelligence for global retailers, healthcare systems, and supply-chain leaders. Reporting to the Director of Engineering & Technical Operations, you will steer a 25-40 person, fully-remote engineering org (Levels I-V) across the UK and North America, delivering a dual-speed roadmap that modernizes our multi-tenant, event-driven architecture while injecting cutting-edge AI/ML capabilities that redefine what RFID data can do.
  • • **Engineering Leadership & People Excellence (40%)** – You will directly manage Software Engineers, Technical Leads, and QA talent, building a culture obsessed with technical excellence, psychological safety, and continuous learning. Through weekly 1:1s, quarterly OKRs, and transparent career ladders, you will coach individuals from junior coders to principal-level architects, ensuring every release meets strict SLAs for latency (<50 ms P95), availability (99.9%+), and security (SOC 2 Type II). You will champion inclusive hiring practices, run rigorous but human-centric performance reviews, and create rotation programs that expose engineers to AI prototyping, platform modernization, and customer-facing feature squads.
  • • **Product Delivery at Global Scale (30%)** – You will own the execution engine behind ClarityRFID’s roadmap, translating Product Management’s vision into shippable increments every two weeks. You will lead sprint planning, story sizing, dependency mapping, and release readiness across 6-8 cross-functional teams, ensuring CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, Terraform) push blue-green deployments to Azure with zero downtime. You will drive platform modernization initiatives—re-architecting monoliths into Kotlin/Spring microservices, introducing Kafka-based event streams that handle 1 M+ msgs/sec, and implementing distributed tracing (OpenTelemetry + Grafana) that surfaces anomalies before customers notice.
  • • **AI/ML Innovation Leadership (20%)** – You will spearhead ClarityRFID’s AI innovation program, moving from whiteboard sketches to production-grade models that reduce shrinkage, predict inventory anomalies, and auto-generate training content for end-users. You will partner with Data Scientists to prototype AI-assisted workflows (PyTorch, Vertex AI), validate predictive loss-detection models against 5 TB of historical RFID reads, and integrate real-time intelligent alerting that pushes actionable insights to mobile devices. You will stay ahead of the curve—evaluating LLMs for semantic search, experimenting with edge AI on RFID readers, and creating internal “AI guilds” that democratize experimentation across squads.
  • • **Cross-Functional Partnership & Business Impact (10%)** – You will act as the technical bridge between Engineering, Product, Sales, Customer Success, and Professional Services, ensuring every story delivers measurable ROI. You will co-define KPIs with Product (e.g., 20 % reduction in out-of-stocks, 15 % faster cycle counts), present quarterly tech roadmaps to the executive team, and join pre-sales calls to articulate how AI-driven insights de-risk $50 M+ inventory deployments. You will also collaborate with Customer Experience to turn post-incident reviews into backlog items that harden the platform and elevate NPS above 70.
  • • **Strategic Vision & Thought Leadership** – Beyond day-to-day execution, you will craft a 3-year technical blueprint that positions ClarityRFID as the de-facto platform for AI-augmented RFID. You will evaluate emerging tech (WebAssembly at the edge, vector databases for similarity search, federated learning for privacy), publish technical blogs, and speak at industry conferences to attract top-tier talent and strategic partners. Your leadership will directly influence revenue growth, customer retention, and Brilliance Canada’s valuation trajectory within the Volaris Group portfolio.

🎯 Requirements

  • • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent; 10+ years designing and operating distributed, cloud-native SaaS systems at scale (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
  • • Proven track record leading multi-quarter, multi-team technical initiatives with measurable business impact; experience with high-volume APIs, event-driven architectures, and microservices required
  • • Demonstrated expertise operationalizing AI/ML technologies—translating prototypes into production features that deliver tangible ROI; hands-on with Python, PyTorch/TensorFlow, and MLOps pipelines
  • • Deep knowledge of observability, reliability engineering, and security best practices; experience with SOC 2, ISO 27001, or similar compliance frameworks
  • • Exceptional leadership and communication skills—able to inspire engineers, negotiate priorities with executives, and present complex technical topics to non-technical stakeholders
  • • Nice-to-have: hands-on exposure to IoT/RFID ecosystems, real-time sensor data, or large-scale telemetry ingestion; familiarity with Kotlin, Spring Boot, Kafka, and Terraform

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Fully remote-first culture with flexible hours across UK, Europe, and North American time zones; annual home-office stipend and co-working allowances
  • • Competitive base salary plus performance bonus and equity participation in a fast-growing Volaris Group company
  • • Comprehensive benefits: private medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and 5 % matched pension contributions
  • • Annual learning & development budget (ÂŁ3,000+) for conferences, certifications, and advanced AI/ML courses; paid speaking opportunities and patent incentive programs
  • • 25 days PTO plus public holidays, volunteer days, and a 4-week paid sabbatical after 5 years of service
