📋 Description

• As the Director of Software Engineering for Platform & Infrastructure at BigCommerce Pty. Ltd., you will shape the technical foundation that empowers the global engineering organization, defining infrastructure strategy, pioneering developer productivity at scale, and partnering with executive leadership to modernize how systems are built, deployed, and operated.
• You will lead, scale, and inspire a distributed team of engineers across Australia, North America, and Europe, eliminating developer friction, championing cloud-native evolution, and ensuring systems are scalable, secure, and reliable while driving strategic infrastructure evolution and talent leadership.
• You will partner with engineering leadership to define and execute the roadmap for infrastructure unification, modernize architecture toward cloud-native and containerized environments, scale core data and messaging layers for global scale, and remove friction by leading developer productivity engineering to reduce cycle times across build, test, deploy, and observability workflows.
• You will grow the organization by coaching and mentoring engineering managers and technical leaders, driving global talent acquisition strategies to attract and retain diverse top-tier engineering talent, and fostering a high-trust, productive feedback culture where engineers are empowered to experiment and challenge the status quo.

🎯 Requirements

• 10+ years in software engineering with 5+ years managing teams (managing through managers)
• Proven ability to influence and align cross-functional stakeholders across distributed teams in Australia, North America, and Europe
• Expertise in the architecture, operation, and evolution of large-scale, cloud-native SaaS infrastructure, including containerization, orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes), and infrastructure-as-code
• Hands-on experience optimizing global performance and security using modern edge platforms like Cloudflare
• Strong technical foundation in systems engineering, including ability to evaluate system design tradeoffs, conduct high-level code reviews, and identify application weaknesses

• Competitive base salary range of $207,000.00 - $311,000.00
