- • As the Employment Tax Manager for North America (NAM) at Gevo Inc., you will lead and develop a team of professionals responsible for payroll and benefits administration, ensuring enterprise-wide compliance, standardization, and operational excellence in employment tax matters across the region. This role is critical to maintaining legal and regulatory adherence while supporting GE Vernova’s People Operations through strategic partnership and process improvement.
- • You will oversee the implementation of employment tax compliance activities within People Operations in the NAM region, partnering closely with the GE Vernova Tax Team to interpret and apply regional tax guidance, and collaborating with HR, Payroll, Legal, and Accounting teams to ensure alignment with federal, state, and local employment tax regulations.
- • Your day-to-day responsibilities include developing and maintaining audit controls for paycodes to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment tax regulations; supporting employment tax audit discussions with authorities and contributing to audit settlement decisions under Tax Team guidance; staying current on evolving employment tax regulations and applying changes to payroll processing workflows.
- • You will develop and implement best practices for employment tax compliance across the NAM region, work with local external tax advisors and authorities under Tax Team guidance, and provide training and support to local payroll teams on correct pay input parameters to prevent errors and ensure accuracy.
- • Collaboration is central to this role: you will partner with Finance, Legal, and HR departments to embed employment tax compliance into all relevant People Operations business processes and initiatives, ensuring seamless integration and consistent application of standards.
- • You will maintain the highest standards of accuracy, timeliness, and quality in all deliverables, ensuring compliance with both legal requirements and GE Vernova’s internal policies, while also supporting ad-hoc global projects as needed to contribute to broader organizational objectives.

🎯 Requirements
- • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field; CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
- • Minimum 5+ years of progressive experience in employment tax compliance, payroll tax, or related tax functions within a multinational or large corporate environment.
- • Demonstrated expertise in U.S. federal, state, and local employment tax regulations, including FICA, FUTA, SUTA, and state-specific payroll tax requirements.
- • Proven experience partnering with HR, Payroll, Legal, and Accounting teams to ensure tax compliance and process integration.
- • Strong analytical skills with experience developing audit controls, interpreting tax guidance, and supporting audit settlements.
- • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to train teams and influence stakeholders across functions and geographies.
