- • The Engineer I, Security is an entry-level role focused on supporting day-to-day security engineering and operations, helping maintain and improve security processes across systems and applications while learning from senior engineers and cross-functional partners.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include assisting in developing and maintaining security tools, documentation, and standards; supporting threat monitoring, triage, and analysis; partnering with application, infrastructure, and DevOps teams to track and remediate vulnerabilities; creating and maintaining operational runbooks; configuring and monitoring SIEM alerts and dashboards; assisting with email, endpoint, and identity protections; helping automate tasks using Python, PowerShell, or other scripting languages; participating in incident response activities; and contributing to knowledge sharing through documentation, demos, or training sessions.
- • The role is part of NextGen Healthcare’s security operations team, where collaboration with senior engineers and cross-functional partners is central to maintaining and improving security posture across cloud and on-prem environments.
- • The person in this role will gain hands-on experience with SOC operations, SIEM platforms, vulnerability management, scripting for automation, and incident response, while building foundational skills in security concepts, tools, and teamwork under mentorship.
🎯 Requirements
- • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- • 1–3 years of experience in security operations, IT operations, systems administration, or a related technical area (including relevant internships or co-ops)
- • Security+ or similar foundational security certification preferred; CEH, SANS, ISC2, or cloud certifications (AWS, Azure, GCP) are a plus
- • Foundational knowledge of security concepts and tools (SOC operations, SIEM, EDR, email threat protection, vulnerability management, cloud security)
- • Basic scripting familiarity (Python or PowerShell) and willingness to learn automation practices
- • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, clear communication, and collaboration in team environments
