Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Engineering Leader for Platform Engineering at ClassDojo, responsible for owning the platform engineering organization end-to-end, including infrastructure, data, developer experience, and AI tooling, to enable every engineer to ship effectively.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include leading a multi-team platform org by setting company-level objectives, translating product needs into a platform roadmap, owning build-vs-buy and architecture trade-offs, and representing platform in cross-functional leadership.
- • Develop engineering managers through coaching, growth plans, performance management, and driving AI-native development practices across teams.
- • Ensure long-term platform success by treating product engineering teams as customers, building paved roads and golden paths, owning SLAs/SLOs, and making intentional tech-debt and reliability decisions.
- • Drive technical excellence by guiding architecture and systems design decisions, ensuring systems are reliable and operationally ready, and making deliberate build-vs-buy choices.
- • Partner with product engineering leads, Security, Ops, Data, and other functions to co-own roadmap and quality, and build pragmatic solutions that evolve with platform maturity.
- • ClassDojo is a small, high-talent-density team focused on giving every child an education they love, used in the majority of U.S. schools and reaching tens of millions globally, expanding from communication to best-in-class learning experiences.
- • The role offers the opportunity to learn and achieve strategic impact at scale, shape technical direction across the entire engineering org, grow as a leader of leaders, and drive adoption of AI-native workflows and platform best practices.
🎯 Requirements
- • 2+ years managing managers, with direct reports who were themselves people managers
- • 10+ years total in technical roles, with a strong individual-contributor era you can still draw on
- • Have owned a platform, infrastructure, data, or developer-productivity area and delivered a measurable outcome (throughput, reliability, cost, or operational safety)
- • Have built or evolved platform engineering practices across multiple teams, not just within one, and earned adoption
- • Have hired, developed, and managed engineering managers
- • Comfortable making and defending build-vs-buy and architecture-level trade-offs across the platform surface; can still reason about code with taste
- • Embrace Candor > Harmony: give the hard message early, comfortable with disagreement
- • Use LLM-based tools daily and push your teams to adopt them
- • Are an excellent written communicator; can articulate strategy and trade-offs clearly in writing
🏖️ Benefits
- • Opportunity to own ClassDojo's Platform engineering org end-to-end for infrastructure, data, developer experience, and AI tooling
- • Work with a small, high-talent-density team from leading technology companies that values ownership, speed, and thoughtful decision-making
- • Impact tens of millions of children and families globally by enabling better learning experiences through platform excellence
- • Remote-first role with flexibility to work from anywhere, requiring significant hours overlap with one of the Americas time zones
- • Competitive salary ranges: $240,000–$280,000 (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT) or $204,000–$238,000 (all other US states)
- • Commitment to equal employment opportunity and accommodation for disabilities or special needs
- • Consideration of qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records per San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance
