Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • Own the end-to-end technical delivery of Sonio’s AI-powered prenatal platform, ensuring that every release meets the highest standards of reliability, security, and scalability required in a regulated health-tech environment.
  • • Lead a cross-functional squad of 6-10 senior engineers (full-stack, edge, cloud, ML) through the full product lifecycle—from discovery and architecture to deployment and post-release monitoring—while maintaining velocity and code quality.
  • • Recruit, onboard, and retain top-tier talent in a competitive market; design individual growth plans, run quarterly performance reviews, and create a culture where engineers feel empowered to experiment, learn, and ship.
  • • Stay hands-on: review critical pull requests, debug edge-device integrations with ultrasound machines, and occasionally dive into the codebase to keep technical legitimacy and empathy with the team.
  • • Drive architectural decisions that balance immediate clinical impact with long-term maintainability—e.g., choosing between real-time streaming protocols, optimizing inference latency on GPU clusters, or refactoring monoliths into micro-services without disrupting live patient sessions.
  • • Translate complex clinical workflows (fetal biometry, anomaly detection, reporting standards) into clear technical epics, ensuring that Product, Design, Data Science, and Regulatory teams are aligned on scope, risk, and timelines.
  • • Establish and monitor SLIs/SLOs for sub-second inference and 99.9 % uptime; lead blameless post-mortems and continuously improve observability, CI/CD, and security posture (HIPAA, GDPR, MDR).
  • • Champion a culture of data-driven decision making: instrument features, run A/B tests on model versions, and iterate based on feedback from sonographers and maternal-fetal-medicine specialists.
  • • Collaborate with the CTO and Staff Engineers to define the 12-month technical roadmap, budget for cloud and edge infrastructure, and evaluate build-vs-buy decisions for critical components.
  • • Represent Sonio externally—whether speaking at meetups about real-time AI in healthcare, publishing technical blogs, or mentoring at Women in ML events—to strengthen our employer brand and attract diverse talent.
  • • Foster psychological safety and inclusive practices; ensure every team member can voice concerns, propose bold ideas, and see their impact on reducing diagnostic errors and improving outcomes for 140 million annual pregnancies.
