- • Lead one of Seccl’s product engineering squads, delivering high-quality, scalable platform capabilities while fostering a culture of psychological safety, trust, empowerment, and continuous improvement.
- • Coach, mentor, and provide line management for engineers, supporting their personal development, career progression, and technical growth.
- • Partner closely with Product Managers to define priorities, align squad work with commercial, regulatory, and platform goals, and ensure delivery is focused on the right outcomes.
- • Balance delivery pace with engineering quality, operational resilience, security, and long-term maintainability, making pragmatic decisions that serve both immediate and future needs.
- • Provide meaningful technical guidance on system design, architecture, and implementation without being the primary coder, engaging in design reviews, technical discussions, and architectural exploration.
- • Own delivery health for your squad, including production readiness, incident response, operational resilience, and ongoing system maintainability.
- • Use metrics, team feedback, and performance insights to improve delivery predictability, system reliability, and team effectiveness.
- • Recruit, onboard, and build high-performing engineering teams with the right skills, behaviours, and ways of working.
- • Contribute to broader engineering initiatives that support scaling, such as improving engineering practices, strengthening delivery processes, and sharing knowledge across squads.
- • Work with Engineering leaders and other teams to enhance cross-team collaboration, consistency, and alignment on shared engineering standards.
- • Remain hands-on where it adds value—unblocking complex delivery challenges, reviewing code, or exploring technical solutions to support team velocity.
- • Apply and help teams responsibly use AI-assisted engineering tools to improve delivery speed, code quality, and developer effectiveness.
- • Ensure all systems are secure, compliant, scalable, and well-integrated with the wider platform, with a strong focus on regulatory requirements in financial services.
- • Drive adoption of best practices in software engineering, including observability, testing, deployment pipelines, and incident management.
- • Contribute to shaping how Engineering operates at Seccl as the company scales, influencing culture, processes, and technical direction.
🎯 Requirements
- • Experienced Engineering manager with a track record of leading complex product domains and scaling engineering teams.
- • Strong hands-on experience with Node.js, MongoDB, AWS, Lambda, Serverless Framework, and JavaScript/TypeScript.
- • Recent, practical experience with AI-assisted engineering tools and ability to guide teams in their responsible application.
- • Domain experience in financial services, investment platforms, fintech, or other highly regulated environments.
- • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, with proven ability to collaborate with Product, Compliance, and senior leadership.
- • Comfortable balancing strategic leadership with hands-on technical involvement, and able to thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous growth environment.

- • Salary up to £110,000, reviewed annually.
