📋 Description

• Lead the creation and execution of Replit’s Anti-Abuse team from scratch, defining the threat model and prioritizing abuse vectors including phishing/scam hosting, cryptomining, LLM token farming, payment fraud, and AI agent exploitation.
• Design and implement a progressive verification and identity infrastructure — a ‘ladder of trust’ — that gates access to platform features (referrals, credits, agent tools, Missions) based on escalating identity verification levels, distinct from standard user accounts.
• Build and integrate with KYC-grade identity verification providers to enforce trust signals and reduce abuse while minimizing friction for legitimate users.
• Ship as a hands-on engineering manager: actively write code, review PRs, and prototype detection systems using AI coding tools like Replit Agent to accelerate development and unblock the team.
• Define and establish core anti-abuse metrics including abuse rate, fraud loss, false positive rate, time-to-detect, time-to-mitigate, and verification step-up conversion; build data pipelines and dashboards to track them from zero.
• Hire and grow a small, high-leverage team of software engineers and data analysts, prioritizing candidates with ownership mindset, adversarial thinking, and fluency in AI-native execution.
• Foster a team culture where AI agents are used as force multipliers without compromising quality or introducing technical debt.
• Partner cross-functionally with Support to triage abuse escalations, Legal to manage compliance and takedown workflows, Security to align on overlapping threat surfaces, Infrastructure to deploy detection primitives, and Money/Growth teams to balance fraud prevention with user conversion.
• Design adaptive friction systems that escalate verification only when risk signals are detected, ensuring Replit becomes an economically unviable target for abusers while preserving a seamless experience for legitimate users.
• Translate ambiguous, unmeasured abuse problems into clear, actionable shipping plans with defined tradeoffs and sequencing.
• Communicate clearly in writing to build alignment across technical and non-technical stakeholders in a fast-moving, 0-to-1 environment.

🎯 Requirements

• 6 to 10+ years of engineering experience with 2+ years managing teams, ideally in anti-abuse, trust and safety, fraud, or an adjacent adversarial domain.
• Hands-on orientation: still write code, review PRs, and prototype; comfortable using AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Replit Agent, or similar) daily.
• Experience building detection and enforcement systems at scale: rules engines, ML-based risk scoring, reputation systems, identity/device signals, or equivalent.
• Experience with identity, KYC, or progressive verification systems is a significant plus.
• Strong product and metrics intuition: defined success metrics for ambiguous problems and built data infrastructure to measure them.
• Experience operating cross-functionally with Support, Legal, Security, and Growth teams; ability to translate technical detections into business impact.
