  • • Lead, mentor, and support a team of engineers building Dave’s new EC Card product — a zero-to-one charge card that expands access to ExtraCash for everyday purchases.
  • • Partner with Product Managers, Design, Risk, and peer Engineering teams to shape product roadmap priorities and technical direction for the EC Card platform.
  • • Drive delivery of scalable, reliable, low-latency systems that directly impact member experience and financial accessibility for underserved Americans.
  • • Collaborate with Lead and Staff Engineers on architecture decisions, engineering standards, and prioritization of technical debt to ensure long-term platform health.
  • • Balance short-term execution with long-term maintainability, ensuring systems are built to scale with growing member demand and evolving business needs.
  • • Create clarity around business context, trade-offs, and priorities so the team understands both the "what" and the "why" behind every initiative.
  • • Remove technical and operational blockers that impede team velocity and member-facing delivery.
  • • Contribute to technical discussions and code reviews while maintaining deep familiarity with the systems owned by your team.
  • • Coordinate launches, experiments, and shared platform investments with other Engineering Managers across Dave.
  • • Use data and operational metrics to guide decisions on product performance, system reliability, and engineering effectiveness.
  • • Help hire, build, and nurture an inclusive, high-performing engineering team in a fast-growing startup environment.
  • • Shape the engineering culture by fostering sustainable execution, ownership, and collaboration across functions.
  • • Work in a virtual-first environment with autonomy to influence both product direction and team operations.
  • • Engage with cross-functional stakeholders to align engineering work with broader company goals and member impact.
  • • Maintain strong technical judgment while guiding teams through ambiguous, complex problems with real-world financial consequences.
  • • Contribute to the evolution of Dave’s lending and payments ecosystem by building foundational infrastructure for a new financial product.

🎯 Requirements

  • • 6+ years of software development experience
  • • 1.5+ years of engineering management experience
  • • Experience building highly available, scalable, low-latency systems
  • • Experience hiring and building inclusive, high-performing engineering teams
  • • Strong technical judgment and ability to guide architecture discussions across large projects
  • • Experience working in a fast-growing startup environment
