- • Lead and grow a team of infrastructure engineers responsible for building and operating Kafka, EventBus (Deliveroo’s internal event streaming abstraction), and other event streaming platform technologies.
- • Drive delivery of key streaming platform initiatives that support Tier-0 business-critical workflows across Deliveroo, DoorDash, and Wolt, ensuring reliability, scalability, and long-term evolution.
- • Partner with infrastructure and engineering leaders across Deliveroo, DoorDash, and Wolt to define and align streaming strategy, roadmap, and technical direction.
- • Improve scalability, observability, automation, and reliability of Tier-0 event streaming systems that underpin real-time logistics, marketplace optimization, and other core functions.
- • Foster operational excellence through incident management, postmortems, and continuous improvement processes for high-availability distributed systems.
- • Hire, mentor, and develop engineering talent while cultivating a high-performing, inclusive team culture with clear expectations and growth pathways.
- • Contribute to architecture reviews, design decisions, and technical evaluations for large-scale distributed systems used across global engineering teams.
- • Operate and enhance event streaming infrastructure that serves millions of customers, riders, and partners daily in a three-sided marketplace.
- • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure event streaming systems meet the needs of product, data, and infrastructure teams building event-driven applications.
- • Maintain and evolve internal event streaming abstractions and platforms to reduce complexity and increase adoption across engineering organizations.
- • Ensure systems are resilient, observable, and automated, with strong monitoring, alerting, and self-healing capabilities.
- • Balance short-term operational demands with long-term platform investments to sustainably scale event streaming capabilities.
- • Communicate technical direction and progress clearly to engineering leaders, stakeholders, and cross-regional teams across Deliveroo, DoorDash, and Wolt.
- • Support the adoption of event-driven architectures by providing guidance, documentation, and tooling to engineering teams building on the platform.
- • Champion reliability engineering practices, including SLIs/SLOs, error budgets, and capacity planning for critical streaming infrastructure.
- • Stay current with industry trends and evaluate emerging event streaming technologies to inform platform evolution.
🎯 Requirements
- • Experience leading streaming infrastructure, platform, or distributed systems engineering teams.
- • Experience with Kafka or large-scale event streaming systems.
- • Strong technical depth in scalable production systems, with a track record of operating high-reliability infrastructure.
- • Proven ability to hire, mentor, and grow engineers while building a strong team culture.
- • Demonstrated ability to drive execution across complex, cross-functional technical initiatives with multiple stakeholders.
- • Strong operational excellence mindset, including incident leadership, observability, reliability engineering, and continuous improvement.
