- • Own the technical roadmap and day-to-day delivery of Adyen’s global Identity & Access Management platform, the backbone that authenticates and authorizes every human and machine user across Meta, Uber, H&M, Microsoft and thousands of other merchants. You will lead 1-2 agile squads (8-15 engineers) who design, build and run the services that gate every API call and UI click in our payments stack.
- • Drive a culture of five-nines reliability. Our auth systems must never go down—an outage here halts payments worldwide—so you will champion SLOs, chaos testing, automated failover and blameless post-mortems. You will pair with SREs to keep p99 latency under 20 ms and error budgets green while the volume of requests grows double-digits every quarter.
- • Translate complex regulatory and security requirements (PSD2, GDPR, SOC 2, PCI-DSS) into elegant technical solutions. You will work with Legal, Risk and Compliance to implement fine-grained authorization policies, step-up MFA flows and zero-trust service-to-service auth that delight auditors and end-users alike.
- • Collaborate horizontally across 30+ product teams to embed identity primitives—OAuth2, OIDC, SAML, SCIM—into new features such as embedded finance, issuing, risk scoring and data analytics. You will run quarterly planning sessions, negotiate capacity and ensure every team can ship fast without compromising security posture.
- • Mentor and grow world-class engineers. You will conduct weekly 1:1s, craft individual growth plans and sponsor engineers for conference talks, open-source contributions and patent filings. Expect to hire 3-5 senior engineers per year while keeping attrition below market average.
- • Balance short-term delivery with long-term architectural bets. You will decide when to refactor legacy auth services into modern Go microservices, when to adopt new standards like passkeys and when to sunset unused capabilities. Your decisions affect millions of daily logins and billions in processed volume.
- • Evangelize identity best practices across Adyen. You will host internal tech talks, write engineering blogs and run threat-model workshops so that every developer understands how to integrate securely with your platform.
- • Report to senior leadership on KPIs: auth success rate, token issuance latency, security incident counts and team health. You will present quarterly business reviews to the CTO and influence company-wide security strategy.
🎯 Requirements
- • 7+ years of backend engineering experience in high-scale distributed systems (Go, Java or similar) and 2+ years leading engineering teams in an IAM, security or platform domain.
- • Deep expertise in authentication & authorization protocols: OAuth2, OIDC, SAML, SCIM, RBAC/ABAC and modern standards such as FIDO2/WebAuthn.
- • Proven track record of running 24/7 mission-critical services with strict SLAs/SLOs and incident response under regulatory scrutiny.
- • Strong stakeholder management skills—comfortable negotiating priorities with product, compliance and commercial teams in a fast-moving fintech environment.
- • Nice-to-have: hands-on experience with cloud-native stacks (Kubernetes, Istio, Terraform), zero-trust architectures and prior contributions to open-source IAM projects.
