📋 Description

• Lead the Identity Infrastructure Engineering team at OpenAI, responsible for building and scaling identity and access management systems that protect model weights, customer data, and critical systems across multiple cloud environments.
• Define technical strategy for identity platform as the policy plane for access across people, agents, workloads, services, clouds, and internal systems, ensuring secure, scalable, and auditable access controls.
• Build and lead a high-performing engineering team by setting technical direction, empowering ownership, and fostering operational excellence in mission-critical infrastructure.
• Drive innovation in access governance by replacing broad standing privilege with risk-tiered, time-bound, and accountable access models for humans and AI agents.
• Partner cross-functionally with Security, Infrastructure, Applied Engineering, Research, IT, and product teams to align identity standards with trusted, adoptable systems.
• Establish reliability, observability, and incident learning practices to operate identity infrastructure as a trusted platform enabling safer, faster, and more accountable access.
• Grow technical and leadership impact by turning ambiguous 0-to-1 problems into durable platforms that support OpenAI’s long-term mission of safe AGI development.

🎯 Requirements

• 10+ years building and developing engineering teams that own large scale platforms
• Experience owning security critical production systems where reliability, least privilege, auditability, and operational rigor are essential
• Deep judgment across cloud infrastructure, IAM, authentication, authorization, workload identity, privileged access, and policy enforcement
• Hands-on technical depth to go into code and architecture, pressure-test designs, and guide tradeoffs across correctness, performance, scale, and operability
• Track record turning complex infrastructure problems into adopted platforms across Engineering, Security, Research, and internal teams
• High bar for engineering quality, operational discipline, and long-term ownership
