Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Be the environmental champion at Canada’s largest diversified mining company, stationed at the iconic Highland Valley Copper Mine. In this two-year term, you will safeguard water resources and drive sustainable practices that protect the land for generations to come.
- • Lead the design, execution, and technical supervision of complex surface- and groundwater-monitoring programs that underpin HVC’s environmental compliance and permitting obligations. You will translate science into action, ensuring every sample, data point, and report meets or exceeds federal and provincial standards.
- • Own the daily oversight of multiple environmental contractors—planning field schedules, coordinating site access with operations, maintenance, and safety teams, and performing rigorous field audits to confirm adherence to QA/QC protocols, industry best practices, and HVC’s Environmental Monitoring Management Plans.
- • Drive full-cycle project management: draft RFPs and EOIs, evaluate bids, negotiate scopes, supervise deliverables, track budgets to the dollar, review and approve invoices, and produce concise, decision-ready reports for senior leadership and regulators.
- • Serve as the primary liaison with Indigenous Governments and Organizations and their commercial partners, embedding traditional ecological knowledge into monitoring strategies and ensuring respectful, transparent engagement that strengthens Teck’s social licence to operate.
- • Champion courageous safety leadership—conduct dynamic risk assessments, implement hazard controls, perform inspections, and respond to after-hours environmental incidents when the community and ecosystem need you most.
- • Harness cutting-edge data tools—EQuIS, GIS, PowerBI—to transform raw environmental data into compelling visual stories that guide water-management decisions and demonstrate regulatory compliance to auditors and stakeholders.
- • Collaborate across geoscience, metallurgy, maintenance, and community relations teams to integrate environmental considerations into every facet of the mine plan, from pit design to closure planning.
- • Deliver targeted environmental education sessions for operators, contractors, and leadership, translating complex regulations into practical on-the-ground actions that build a culture of compliance and continuous improvement.
- • Contribute to the continual refinement of HVC’s Water Management and Environmental Management Systems, ensuring alignment with Teck’s sustainability strategy and global climate commitments.
- • Thrive in a fast-paced, outdoor environment—regularly traversing uneven, sloped, rocky, wet, and icy terrain to collect critical samples and verify field conditions—while maintaining meticulous documentation and organization.
- • Enjoy a career adventure framed by breathtaking British Columbia scenery—50 minutes from Kamloops and minutes from outdoor recreation—where your work directly protects the land you love to explore.
🎯 Requirements
- • University degree or college diploma in environmental science, geology, biology, or related discipline, plus eligibility for immediate registration with a regulatory body under the BC Professional Governance Act
- • Minimum 2 years of technical experience in environmental monitoring or management at mining or heavy industrial sites
- • Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous Governments and Organizations and their commercial entities
- • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and environmental data management systems; familiarity with GIS, EQuIS, or PowerBI considered a strong asset
- • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence and ability to work independently in remote outdoor locations
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive salary range of CAD $93,000–$115,000 per year
- • Comprehensive total-rewards package including extended health, basic life and AD&D insurance, health spending account, and virtual telemedicine
- • Paid sick leave, vacation, and statutory holidays plus EFAP for mental and emotional well-being
- • Access to world-class outdoor recreation—hiking, skiing, fishing, and golf—minutes from site, with vibrant small-town communities and city amenities within a 50-minute drive
