📋 Description

• As a Facility Manager at Focused Energy Inc., you will play a critical role in ensuring the seamless operation and safety of a cutting-edge fusion energy startup’s office and research facilities in Darmstadt, Germany. Your leadership directly supports the company’s mission to deliver clean, scalable energy through laser-induced inertial fusion by maintaining a secure, functional, and high-performing work environment for scientists, engineers, and technical teams.
• You will oversee the daily operations of office and laboratory spaces, serving as the primary point of contact for property management, government authorities, and external service providers. This includes managing vendor relationships, coordinating preventive and corrective maintenance schedules, and ensuring all facility systems—HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and safety infrastructure—are functioning optimally to support uninterrupted research and administrative workflows.
• You will lead and develop a small team responsible for facility operations and office management, providing clear direction, setting priorities, and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. Your hands-on approach will ensure high team performance, effective task delegation, and responsiveness to both routine needs and urgent operational challenges.
• You will drive compliance with occupational health and safety regulations by conducting risk assessments, organizing employee training programs, and implementing emergency preparedness measures such as fire alarm testing, evacuation drills, and hazardous material handling protocols. Your vigilance ensures a safe workplace that meets both German legal standards and internal safety benchmarks.
• You will actively support the company’s growth by assisting in the planning and setup of new laboratories and test areas as Focused Energy scales its research capabilities. This involves coordinating space allocation, utility readiness, and vendor onboarding to enable rapid deployment of experimental infrastructure.
• You will act as the on-site facility expert, maintaining a strong physical presence to respond to incidents, conduct inspections, and provide immediate support during evenings or weekends when required. While flexible remote work is possible for administrative tasks, your role demands high availability on-site to ensure operational continuity in a dynamic, high-tech environment.
• In this role, you will gain deep exposure to the intersection of advanced scientific research and operational excellence, developing expertise in managing complex technical facilities within a fast-growing, mission-driven startup. You will have the opportunity to shape facility strategies, influence workplace design, and contribute directly to the company’s ability to innovate and scale.
• You will build cross-functional collaboration skills by working closely with physicists, engineers, and laboratory teams, translating their technical needs into practical facility solutions. 🎯 Requirements

• Proven experience in office, facility, construction, or real estate management, preferably within high-tech, research, or industrial environments.
• Solid knowledge of facility operations including building maintenance, vendor coordination, and compliance with health and safety regulations.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop teams, with experience in facility, workplace services, or administration team leadership and a track record of driving operational excellence.
• Fluency in both German and English, with strong communication skills for coordinating with internal teams and external partners.
• Hands-on, solution-oriented mindset with the willingness to address technical issues directly and work flexibly, including availability during evenings or weekends for emergencies.
• Advantageous: Certifications in occupational safety, fire protection, hazardous materials handling, or first aid.
