• • Monzo Bank is seeking a proactive and experienced Finance Internal Controls Manager to join their dynamic team on a permanent basis. This pivotal role is centered around driving significant change, embracing automation, and elevating control maturity within the Finance department as the company continues its rapid scaling. While the foundational elements of controls, management information (MI), and governance are integral, the primary focus of this position is to reduce reliance on manual processes, embed sustainable controls through strategic transformation initiatives, and provide robust support for complex changes, including ERP evolution and international expansion into the EU.
• • In this role, you will leverage essential tools such as Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs) and controls MI to strategically prioritize change initiatives, pinpoint control weaknesses, and meticulously track the impact of transformation activities. The insights and outputs generated will be crucial for informing Finance governance forums, ensuring alignment and driving informed decision-making across the department.
• • A core responsibility will be to spearhead the transition from manual, often workaround-dependent controls, to highly automated, well-designed, and scalable processes. This is particularly critical in the wake of ERP changes, where opportunities for optimization and enhanced control design are abundant.
• • You will be instrumental in designing and automating controls, utilizing powerful ERP platforms (such as SAP) and advanced data tooling. This includes a hands-on approach to working with data, employing SQL and/or scripting languages like Python. The objective is to replace inefficient manual and detective controls with robust, preventative solutions that ensure long-term scalability and effectiveness.
• • Collaboration is key in this position. You will partner closely with cross-functional teams, including Finance, Tax, Treasury, and Engineering, to design controls that are inherently scalable and integrated into business processes, rather than merely maintaining compliance documentation as isolated, point-in-time artifacts.
• • You will provide critical support for complex change initiatives, such as the bank's expansion into the EU and the management of multi-entity operations. This involves ensuring that controls are seamlessly embedded as processes evolve, preventing the need for costly retrofitting or reactive adjustments.
• • The insights derived from control analysis will be actively used to shape strategic prioritization, influence critical design decisions, and enhance overall organizational resilience. This approach moves beyond operating controls as a standalone, isolated activity, integrating them into the broader strategic framework.
• • You will ensure that policies, standards, and reporting mechanisms evolve in lockstep with Finance transformation efforts. The goal is to maintain a robust and effective control framework without introducing unnecessary operational overhead or complexity.
• • A significant aspect of the role involves providing expert guidance and support to the business, helping them demonstrate that an appropriate control environment is consistently in place. This is especially important during periods of significant change, such as ERP implementations and EU expansion.
• • You will work closely with the second line of defense to continuously enhance Monzo's overarching risk, controls, and governance framework, fostering a culture of proactive risk management and strong internal oversight.
• • This role will also involve leading and managing strategic projects within the Finance department, contributing directly to the development and enhancement of financial capabilities across the entire bank.
• • You will collaborate effectively with engineers to automate or significantly enhance recurring processes, thereby driving improved control automation and overall operational efficiency.
• • It is anticipated that this role will evolve over time. The focus will shift as Finance matures, moving from initial stabilization and transformation phases into longer-term optimization and advanced automation strategies, ensuring continuous improvement and adaptation.
