- • As the Financial Controller, you will be instrumental in building and owning Orbital's foundational, scalable finance function from the ground up. This pivotal role will oversee all financial operations across the UK, US, and Canada, supporting our mission to transform the physical world through AI. You will serve as the CFO's principal advisor, taking full ownership of the company's financial data integrity, establishing robust internal controls, and delivering critical strategic insights to sustain our rapid growth trajectory. This is an exceptional opportunity to architect the financial engine that powers the first AI-driven industrial company, shaping its future success.
- • Your day-to-day responsibilities will encompass comprehensive financial reporting, including the meticulous management of the company's day-to-day financial operations. This includes overseeing the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes, as well as consolidating accounts across our entities in the UK, US, and Canada to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of financial results. You will be tasked with establishing and maintaining a robust financial control environment, which involves developing and implementing comprehensive policies, procedures, and approval frameworks, always with an eye towards the company's ambitious growth plans and potential strategic operational shifts.
- • Furthermore, you will be responsible for building and scaling the company's essential finance infrastructure. This includes leading the selection and implementation of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, designing the chart of accounts, and establishing sophisticated reporting systems. The goal is to create a digital financial infrastructure that is perfectly suited for the company's anticipated strong growth in the coming years. Continuous process and system improvement will be key to ensuring the finance function remains scalable, highly efficient, and consistently audit-ready. You will also ensure strict compliance with all local statutory reporting, tax filings, and regulatory requirements across all operating jurisdictions. This involves close collaboration with external advisors on matters of corporate tax, VAT/sales tax, and international structuring, including transfer pricing.
- • You will own the relationships with our external auditors and advisors, spearheading the annual audit process across all relevant jurisdictions. A significant part of your role will involve assisting in the preparation of group-level management accounts and board reporting packs, providing detailed variance analysis and actionable key insights to inform strategic decision-making. You will also be expected to provide insightful financial analysis to support decision-making across all business functions, acting as a strategic partner to the CFO and leadership team. This includes supporting fundraising activities, due diligence processes, and fostering cross-functional collaboration within our dynamic and growing organization.
- • Beyond the core financial operations, you will play a crucial role in building, managing, and mentoring a growing finance team. You will start by establishing core accounting and operational roles and will act as the CFO's indispensable right-hand person for all finance-related strategic initiatives, including potential fundraising rounds, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), and preparations for an Initial Public Offering (IPO).

🎯 Requirements
- • 5–10 years of experience as a Financial Controller or in an equivalent role, with a background in Big 4 accounting firms or high-growth companies.
- • Hands-on experience managing month-end close, audits, and multi-entity operations, particularly across EMEA and North America.
- • Strong expertise in accounting and financial reporting (General Ledger, revenue recognition, tax fundamentals, IFRS/GAAP).
- • Advanced proficiency in Excel and ERP systems; ACA, ACCA, or CPA qualification is highly desirable.
- • Proven ability to operate as a hands-on owner, build scalable finance processes from scratch, demonstrate strong analytical thinking, and thrive in fast-changing environments.
- • Experience implementing or upgrading finance systems and driving process improvements for accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
- • Extensive experience partnering with CFOs and leadership teams, delivering board-level insights, supporting fundraising and due diligence, and collaborating cross-functionally.
